Guest Posted October 21, 2002 Posted October 21, 2002 Hello. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. Scientopica (www.scientopica.com/sci/) has been submitted to the Science; Directories (http://dmoz.org/Science/Directories/). This is the fourth attempt at submission, with the previous two tries initially yielding 'listed' status, but ultimately resulting in the site not being listed. I would greatly appreciate editorial assistance. Perhaps Scientopica is being submitted to the wrong category in the opinion of your editors, or the submission form is not being completed properly? Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Guest Posted October 21, 2002 Posted October 21, 2002 Re: www.scientopica.com/sci in Science; Directorie As far as I could see, your submissions haven't been touched yet ( www.scientopica.com and www.scientopica.com/sci/ , the first URL is redirecting to the second one). The unreviewed queue is not very long (about 50 sites), you'll have to wait until an editor has a look in here. Is there any specific reason why the main URL redirects to a deeplink? You have two submissions with different URLs for the same site waiting in the same queue, one should be deleted. <img src="/images/icons/smirk.gif" alt="" />
Guest Posted October 21, 2002 Posted October 21, 2002 Re: www.scientopica.com/sci in Science; Directorie Thank you for your reply, senox. Since I had seen the status go from 'listed' to 'not listed' I had assumed that the site had been looked at already. Originally (early summer) I had not really thought that our pointing our domain name to its appropriate server file would constitute a redirect (to scientopica.com/sci/index.php)...but that has since been adjusted and the www.scientopica.com/sci/ url is what has been submitted. Thanks again for your reply.
motsa Posted October 21, 2002 Posted October 21, 2002 Re: www.scientopica.com/sci in Science; Directorie What do you mean by "Since I had seen the status go from 'listed' to 'not listed'..."? Just curious. BTW your two duplicate submissions (www.scientopica.com and www.scientopica.com/sci/index.php) were deleted, leaving just the one correct one in the queue. <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
Guest Posted October 22, 2002 Posted October 22, 2002 Re: www.scientopica.com/sci in Science; Directorie Motsa, Thanks for the reply and for cleaning up my urls. The 'listed' 'not listed' that I mentioned was in reference to an application I have that checks the status of submissions. If you would like any more information let me know. Thanks again.
Guest Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Re: www.scientopica.com/sci in Science; Directorie Just to let you know...the 'listed' to 'not listed' thing happened again. Yesterday Scientopica was 'listed', but today it is 'not listed'. I do know that I have to be patient...I just figured that I would pass on the new information that I had.
motsa Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Re: www.scientopica.com/sci in Science; Directorie The application you have is obviously experiencing problems. Doesn't sound like it is very reliable for tracking ODP submissions since your site still hasn't been touched. How does it determine your submission status?
dfy Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Re: www.scientopica.com/sci in Science; Directorie An interesting time for your application to flag up listing changes, as the entirety of dmoz has been static for the past week or so. Any changes your application might flag up are a result of its own imagination.
Guest Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Re: www.scientopica.com/sci in Science; Directorie The only reliable way for non-editors to check if a site is listed or not is to have a look at the ODP category, and to make sure that there's no old version of the category hanging around in a cache. There may be a delay before an accepted site shows up on the public side of ODP, but this is nothing an 'external' appication can check. <img src="/images/icons/smirk.gif" alt="" />
Guest Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Re: www.scientopica.com/sci in Science; Directorie Fantastic! I am glad that I posted the latest 'quiver'. Thanks for jumping on that with great information. Some suggestions questioned the reliability of the software that I am using...and I have to agree. While replying to another post I did some checking up and found that the software is no longer able to be downloaded. That may be a sign. Thanks again for the responses. I am glad to hear that (at least as it seems from what was written) Scientopica is in the queue and not being bounced back and forth.
Guest Posted October 28, 2002 Posted October 28, 2002 Re: www.scientopica.com/sci in Science; Directorie Sorry for another question...but I am inquiring about proper etiquette. Everything that I have read from DMOZ suggests a waiting period of at least 3 weeks. And then after 3 weeks, it is ok to re-submit, if your site was not selected for inclusion. If/when the 3 weeks is up, from when we submitted Scientopica for inclusion, should I inquire on this board or just resubmit. Of course, I am dealing with many ifs...but I just figured that I would find out the proper way to do things with DMOZ. Thanks.
dfy Posted October 28, 2002 Posted October 28, 2002 Re: www.scientopica.com/sci in Science; Directorie Do not re-submit, your new submission will overwrite the old one and you'll just have knocked yourself further down the queue. The 'three weeks' advice is intended to be read once. The idea is that if you've seen nothing after three weeks, there's a possibility that your submission got lost (it happens on rare occasions). So we advise people to re-submit after three weeks, but only the once, you should not re-submit *every* three weeks. SInce you know your site is already in the queue, there is no need for you to re-submit. Ever.
