thardwick Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 I'm ready to pull my hair out!! I have tried repeatedly over the last couple of years to get our web address updated in the DMOZ directory. I have never heard a word from anyone about it. For the first year, I submitted my new address info every couple of months. Then, someone told me that it would look like I was spamming and would go to the bottom of the line. Anyway, I quit doing that and haven't submitted anything for quite some time. Our site hasn't been updated to this day. In fact, our listing hasn't dropped out of the site, even though the link listed in DMOZ doesn't even work! We are listed in "Business: Industrial Goods and Services: Machinery and Tools: Cutting and Machining: Cutting Machinery". Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?? Thanks!
spectregunner Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 Please provide your URL and the category wher you are listed in a clickable form and one of us will take a look at the history.
thardwick Posted April 7, 2004 Author Posted April 7, 2004 Thanks so much for the quick response!! The URL as it is listed on your site is http://www.plasmacut.com/home.htm. Our new site is www.innerlogic-inc.com. There is a redirect from plasmacut.com to innerlogic-inc.com, but there is no page named home.htm on the new site. If you simply entered http://www.plasmacut.com, you would be properly redirected to http://www.innerlogic-inc.com. The category is Business: Industrial Goods and Services: Machinery and Tools: Cutting and Machining: Cutting Machinery Thanks again!
thehelper Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 We do not dead links in our directory so I fixed the URL. Give the public pages a day or few to update. Thanks for the report. If the link was not dead and a redirect not up there might have been a delay but it appears all your i's were dotted as well as your t's - so now ours are as well. Have a great day!
thardwick Posted April 7, 2004 Author Posted April 7, 2004 Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! You wouldn't believe how much stressed this has caused me :-)
thardwick Posted April 7, 2004 Author Posted April 7, 2004 Not to push my luck, but I should have asked for one more thing while I was at it! At the same time, I was trying to change our description from "Design and manufacture of fully automatic plasma cutting systems" to "Design and manufacture of conventional and precision plasma cutting systems and torch height controls". Would that be too much to ask??

At the same time, I was trying to change our description from "Design and manufacture of fully automatic plasma cutting systems" to "Design and manufacture of conventional and precision plasma cutting systems and torch height controls". Would that be too much to ask?? Actually I changed the description to Designs and manufactures conventional and precision plasma cutting systems. If you want an editor to consider your additional changes you are going to have to submit an Update URL request. You can find that at the top right corner of the dmoz.org category you are listed in. Your additional changes don't look like keyword stuffing to me so you probably have a good chance of getting an update on that if it truly describes the site better. No telling when that will happen though. At least the URL is fixed. Have a great day!
thardwick Posted April 7, 2004 Author Posted April 7, 2004 Thanks again!! At least that describes it better than before, since all of our equipment isn't fully automatic! Have a great day!
thardwick Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 One more question.... I just did a search on DMOZ for InnerLogic and 2 results appear. Under "Open Directory Categories" the web link shows up correctly (http://www.innerlogic-inc.com). However, under "Open Directory Sites", the web link still shows up with the old info (http://www.plasmacut.com/home.htm). Is this something that will be updated automatically, or does that need to be changed as well? Thanks again!
Alucard Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 The ODP search engine is not much of a search engine - it's contents lag behind the main ODP category by quite a bit - it's really intended to be just a convenient to tool to find a category, not to find sites.
giz Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 The search function hasn't been updated for several weeks. Editors have been busy on the last parts of converting all the data to UTF-8. If all goes well it should be updated again in the next few weeks or so.
