lsolomon Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Howdy! I would like to check the status of: http://www.solomonoutfitters.com I submitted it to: http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors/Clothing/ I know it's only been a month, but I have a long story for you! When I first opened my store last year, I submitted my site and it was accepted pretty quickly. Then, DMOZ seemed to be down for about a week. When it came back up, my site was gone. I resubmitted my site but it never showed up. I resubmitted my site last month because I just figured I did something wrong, as I am prone to do... I know you guys have a lot on your plate; but I'm just getting antsy. I'd like to be an editor, but I tend to make a website about anything I'm remotely interested in. Is it always a disqualification if you own a site in a category you have a site affiliation with? OK, thanks for providing a forum for us impatient types. It's much appreciated! Sincerely, Lynn Solomon
yapuka Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Hello, This site has been suggested to several categories within Shopping/Recreation. Editors have been doing some Spring cleaning in this area and haev removed duplicate suggestions, including yours to Outdoors/Clothing . But they left one for review (we always do). Problem is, I do not know where it is. You'll have to be patient. The site will be reviewed at some point. No need to suggest it again. Thanks
lsolomon Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 Problem is, I do not know where it is. I'm not clear on this sentence. Is there something I can do to help? Thanks for the quick response earlier. Lynn
Alucard Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 if you could tell us which other categories you have submitted the site to, it would help us, for sure. Right now, the prospect of going through every one, seaching for the site, is a very tedious one.
lsolomon Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 My submission last month was here: http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors/Clothing/ As far as I can remember, I've only submitted to: http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors/Clothing/ I may have originally submitted it to: http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors/
Meta nea Posted April 14, 2004 Meta Posted April 14, 2004 It is not waiting for review in either of those categories. Curlie Meta and kMeta editor nea
lsolomon Posted April 14, 2004 Author Posted April 14, 2004 Should I re-submit? I know, for sure, that I submitted to Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors/Clothing I don't know what to do... lsolomon Posted April 15, 2004 Author Posted April 15, 2004 Hello, You guys are really fast to respond, so I'm wondering if my last reply slipped through the cracks? Thanks, Lynn
spectregunner Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 No, our automated link checker recently ran and many of the editors who split their time between the forum and the directory are focusing additional attention to the directory.
lsolomon Posted April 15, 2004 Author Posted April 15, 2004 OK. If someone could please just verify that my site is actually waiting for review somewhere; I'll come back in a couple months. From what I gather from "nea" my site is not waiting anywhere to be reviewed. I hate to go away for a couple of months only to discover that my site isn't waiting to be reviewed. Thanks, Lynn
spectregunner Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 Well, accoding to nea (who is very good at this stuff) your site is not waiting in any of the categories you gave us, and we have no tool that will let us serach all of hte million plus sites waiting in various pools. Go ahead and resubmit one more time to the single best category. You may reference this thread in the description and no one will hold the additional submission against you.
lsolomon Posted April 16, 2004 Author Posted April 16, 2004 OK. I resubmitted. Thank you all for your help.
lsolomon Posted June 3, 2004 Author Posted June 3, 2004 Hello, Just checking back to make sure I am still in the queue. Thanks, Lynn
sole Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 To which category did you submit it? (Please give a clickable link.)
lsolomon Posted June 4, 2004 Author Posted June 4, 2004 I submitted it to: http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors/Clothing/ Thanks, Lynn
donwiebe Posted June 5, 2004 Posted June 5, 2004 An editor found a duplicate submission for that URL and deleted this submission in favour of the other. The site is now awaiting review in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors/Hunting/ .
lsolomon Posted August 13, 2004 Author Posted August 13, 2004 Howdy, I originally submitted my site about 17 months ago. My site was accepted and listed - DMOZ crashed soon thereafter and my site hasn't been added since. I thought the story bore retelling. I'm just checking to see if everything is OK. Thanks, Lynn
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted August 13, 2004 Editall/Catmv Posted August 13, 2004 The log shows no sign that your site was ever listed. Are you sure it was listed in the DMOZ directory?
lsolomon Posted August 14, 2004 Author Posted August 14, 2004 Could someone please tell me what to do? Would you be frustrated if you were in my shoes? This is happening over and over again. I post my site, it gets accepted. DMOZ crashes (once) and my site never reappears. Several times I resubmit. My listing gets lost in DMOZ. I'm told to relist. I check back in a couple months. My listing is gone again. I know you guys have a lot on your plate. But 17 months? What should I think about this? I know I'll probably never see my site in DMOZ now that I have voiced my concerns. But I think a Budist monk would be impatient by now.
lsolomon Posted August 14, 2004 Author Posted August 14, 2004 Sorry for the rant. I'm just very frustrated.
djdeeds Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 Could someone please tell me what to do? No need for you to do anything more. The suggestion has been received (well, several actually), and the site is waiting in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors/Hunting for review by an editor. Thanks.
Meta hutcheson Posted August 15, 2004 Meta Posted August 15, 2004 Three "duplicate" submittals have been deleted recently, some from the category you mention. There is apparently one left somewhere, but not in that category. (I don't have an easy way of tracking down which category it is; but probably not Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors/Hunting/Clothing or Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors . Can you recall anywhere ELSE you might have submitted? (The history is long and complex; it is possible that you may never have submitted directly to Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors .)
lsolomon Posted August 16, 2004 Author Posted August 16, 2004 I originally submitted to http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors/Clothing/ I was told by Spectregunner: >>Go ahead and resubmit one more time to the single best category. You may reference this thread in the description and no one will hold the additional submission against you. So, I submitted to http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors/Clothing/ again but was sent to http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors/Hunting/ which, I suppose, is just fine with me. With all due respect, what would cause this to take a year and a half? I'm trying to figure out where I screwed up so badly.
bobrat Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 Why assume you did anything wrong? At this point no one has rejected your sites, it's just that no-one has reviewed it and accepted it. It's just that you have an expectation that a year and half is too long. You might note How long until my site will be reviewed? which would give you a more realistic point of view. I understand that it's frustrating waiting when you don't know how long and have a false expectation, I waited to pick up window blinds today, and it was indicated to me there was one person ahead of me, after waiting half an hour with 4 people served ahead of me I gave up and walked out. But with ODP, there is no line up, there is no indication how many people are ahead of you, because it does not work on that concept. People make suggestions of sites, which may be processed in any order, and that could be 10 minutes from now, or never. There could be many reaons why your site was not reviewed and published yet. An editor could have looked at it, and found it had some minor problem, but he decided not to reject it, but also not to publish it at this time. Sometimes sites are not so easy to review, they may have content that crosses categories. There could be 2000 other sites waiting to be reviewed, and the editor has not got to it yet. There could be no other sites waiting to be reviewed, but no editor is interested in reviewing Outdoor Clothing sites.
lsolomon Posted November 16, 2004 Author Posted November 16, 2004 Howdy, I originally submitted my site about 19 months ago. My site was accepted and listed - DMOZ crashed soon thereafter and my site hasn't been added since. I thought the story bore retelling. Please don't take the following as griping, I just don't know how to put it to words. This is probably too much to ask, but could the editor please tell me why it is taking 19 months. Or, tell me what I can do. I mean this with all respect. I would simply feel better if someone would say, "there is no editor for your category" or "your site is just plain bad". It can't possibly be as bad as some of these existing dmoz sites: http://www.adventurecatalog.com/ http://www.sportsannex.com/ http://www.coreoutdoor.com/ Anyhow, I don't like to gripe. I like to fix or help. So, if there is anything I can do, please let me know. Thanks, Lynn
