bobrat Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 I though a gave a fairly detailed explanation. What's missing? No one has rejected your site. As stated above, some editors did spend time getting rid of you duplicate submissions, but they would not have reviewed the site. One or more editors might have looked at your site, and not been impressed enough to immediately list it, but that's total speculation, ther is no way of knowing that. Since everyone works when they want, and reviews sites in the order they want, it's entirely possible that nobody will ever review your site, and nothing can be done about that. If no editor today is interested in editing outdoor clothing, then your site will not be reviewed. If an editor suddenly gets interested tonight, and decides to work through that category, then it could be reviewed tonight. There is no way of knowing that.
lsolomon Posted May 2, 2005 Author Posted May 2, 2005 2 years and counting Howdy! A little over two years ago, I submitted this site. It was quickly accepted. DMOZ crashed. When DMOZ came back up my site was gone. Since then, I've written every couple months just to check and see if my site has fallen off the list or is just waiting to be reviewed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lynn
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted May 2, 2005 Editall/Catmv Posted May 2, 2005 See below. I'm leaving this post intact, except for the note I have something more to say. 1. You're lying. (You've been told you were mistaken more than once -- at this point, you're lying.) Your site was never listed in http://dmoz.org/ . Perhaps it will be, some day. 2. Over the past 20 months, 4 copies of your submission were deleted from various categories within http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Recreation . 3. On August 14, 2004, djdeeds (post 21) said one copy was waiting for review in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Recreation/Outdoors/Hunting , and hutcheson (post 22) said there was one copy waiting somewhere. 4. There has been no change in status of any of your suggestions since then. 5. This constitutes a status report, so you may ask again in 6 months on November 2. (I don't think either post 24 or post 26 constitutes a status report -- if it does, a moderator will delete points 4 and 5 of this message.)
oneeye Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 In the last 3 years and in the course of 20,000+ edits I have only come across one case where a site has been listed once and disappeared along with the entire history of it ever having been listed. Given the number of categories the site has been suggested to it would not be possible to check the editing logs for all of those to find out whether you are the second person this has happened to. It is highly unlikely - a 1 in 10,000 chance but not completely impossible. But the point is: stop submitting, the site has been received. One day when an editor takes an interest they will review the site and make a decision.
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted May 8, 2005 Editall/Catmv Posted May 8, 2005 I apologize for calling the original poster a liar back in post #28. It's possible he was mistaken, and it's possible we were mistaken. It's just that I don't really see the point of his repeating his claims when many of us have stated we have seen no evidence to support them. (BTW, the "wayback machine" at http://www.archive.org seems to have been actively indexing DMOZ since sometime in 1999, so that if the poster knows the exact category and approximate time the site was listed, it should be possible to verify.)
lsolomon Posted May 10, 2005 Author Posted May 10, 2005 It's my understanding that anyone can suggest a site. Could it be that the system worked and someone besides myself suggested the site? As for being called a liar. I hate to dignify the comment with a response. But here's the truth. I submitted the site. About four weeks later (I checked every day) my site appeared. I went out to DMOZ the next day and the whole thing was comepletely down. I checked every day for a couple of days and DMOZ was comepletely down. When it finally came back up, my site was gone. I resubmitted because it appeared to be the obvious thing to do at that point, figuring DMOZ restored from a backup that didn't include my site. I wrote in a couple times and was told to resubmit. I resubmitted. Those are the only three submissions I've made. Call me a liar if you wish. But these are the facts.
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted May 10, 2005 Editall/Catmv Posted May 10, 2005 I think I remember that crash. I didn't think any sites actually appeared during that time, as any of my attempts to publish caused the listing to be deleted. But, nonetheless, your site is still waiting somewhere for review, as has been noted in my message 28 and in message 29.
