old_crone Posted October 26, 2002 Posted October 26, 2002 Is there a reason this site http://www.ihr.com/ gets 11 listings? Not that I care, just curious to know if this is an exception and why it would be one. http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Clinics_and_Services/North_America/United_States/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Directories/ http://dmoz.org/Science/Biology/Cryobiology/Sperm,_Ova,_Embryo_Storage/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Male/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Education/Emotional_Aspects/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Education/Testing_and_Diagnosis/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Conditions_and_Diseases/Endocrine_Disorders/Gonads/Polycystic_Ovarian_Syndrome/ http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Arizona/Localities/P/Phoenix/Health/Physicians/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Clinics_and_Services/North_America/United_States/Oregon/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Clinics_and_Services/North_America/United_States/Texas/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Clinics_and_Services/North_America/United_States/California/
dstanovic Posted October 26, 2002 Posted October 26, 2002 Old Crone, They don't have 11 - they have 12 including a blank page with three links to other areas of their site/services and a redirect or so http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=ihr.com They seem to be pretty involved in web development so they will probably be submitting there soon.
motsa Posted October 26, 2002 Posted October 26, 2002 The clinic sites have their own domains now so those URLs have been corrected. Two were either 404 or didn't have any related information on them. I listed the main URL in the main Infertility cat and removed the deeplinks under Infertility. The links in other cats (PCOS and Science) were left as is. Thanks for passing that on. [edited to add: dstanovic, old crone was correct. There are/were only 11; the other 2 were completely unrelated.]
dstanovic Posted October 27, 2002 Posted October 27, 2002 motsa, Uhgg! didn't see two .au domains the first time Thanks for correcting me
old_crone Posted October 27, 2002 Author Posted October 27, 2002 Thanks for appeasing my curiosity. I've come across other multiple listings but none with this many in the past. Is this something you odp editors want to know about? Or would you prefer that I not post them here?
Guest Posted October 27, 2002 Posted October 27, 2002 Post them here or send details to one of us meta types.

Guest richard123 Posted October 30, 2002 Posted October 30, 2002 Newbie question on multiple listings: I read this thread and think to myself "... but there are sites that have 50,60,70 listings at least surely. Is that OK?" Like for instance: salon.com and askmen.com. It seems to me that askmen.com should have multiple listings because it's such a huge site. Is there a relationship between site size and number of listings allowed? (I'm not talking about sites such as Geocities and the like, btw.)

dfy Posted October 30, 2002 Posted October 30, 2002 It's nothing to do with how big the site is, it's the quality of the content. I haven't looked at any of the links above, but the general rule is that deep-links are encouraged if it provides useful, appropriate content for a category.
Guest Posted October 31, 2002 Posted October 31, 2002 Some categories encourage deeplinking because often deeplinks are the only way to add content to a category. Arts/Movies/Titles and Arts/Celebrities are like that. Your average Arts/Movies/Titles subcategory will have maybe 1 official site with the full URL, and perhaps a fan site or two... and the rest will be deeplinks to movie databases and review sites. Of course, the picture is a bit different for more popular movies.
totalxsive Posted November 1, 2002 Posted November 1, 2002 Way back in the days when the ODP was still a load of primorvial ooze, deeplinking was more widely encouraged to help build out categories. Now that we have more editors and more submissions from the public, we tend to avoid deeplinking unless the content is relevant, good quality and unique.
