Hello

I submitted my web site http://www.nestingdollcollections.com over 2 months ago in the category

Shopping: Ethnic and Regional: European: Russian . I am wondering what the status is and am worried that I might have submitted to many times. I am new to this so go easy on me please Thanks

It makes our life easier if you provide clickable links to the category (just cut'n'paste the URL): http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Ethnic_and_Regional/European/Russian .

Looking at the submission (you are awaiting review in that category with between a dozen and two dozen other sites), the last submitted date is '25 October 2002'. Therefore, it is a little bit early to be asking the status of the submission. The category appears to be reasonably well maintained, so it shouldn't be more than a couple of months at the outside before your site is reviewed. If it hasn't been listed in a month to 2 months, come back to this thread (don't open a new one - as that just gets us annoyed) and we'll be able to tell if you've been rejected or not.

If you have a physical store front, you may consider submitting to the appropriate Regional/ category.

Ok Thanks for the info, I will cut and paste from now on.

I am pretty sure I submitted to this category about the end of Aug. and just recently submitted again. Can I get penalized for trying to submit to soon again?

Most of the time, if you re-submit to the same category your latest submission will overwrite the previous one. So, although you may have submitted several months ago - because you resubmitted yesterday, it overwrote the details.

>> Can I get penalized for trying to submit to soon again? <<

Yes you can, but the penalisation only usually comes into play with 'big abusers': i.e. if you attempted to list everypage of your site ('deeplinks') or resubmited every single day (with or without the same URL) then we would have to take measures to stop/reduce it. These penalisations can range from simple warnings to other editors ("look out - known abuser/spammer") to a complete blocking of you submitting any sites and your URL blacklisted. Like I said, these penalities are only used in the extreme cases, but as long as you are sensible and don't try to abuse the system then you won't even run the risk of these coming into play. Accidents we can live with, abuse of the system we don't.

Ok I got the jest of what you are saying about abuse. So let me ask this question: Is it alright to submit other pages of the web site also along with the home page or indexpage? For instance I could submit the history of the nesting dolls that is what the whole site is really selling ? I wouldn't be submitting each page more than once?

This wouldn't be spamming if I understand what you are saying Correct?

Thanks

If you have a page on nesting doll history on your site, and it contains sufficient information to be useful to someone interested in the subject, and it doesn't say "BUY BUY BUY" on every third line, and you can find a category that is crying out for content like that, then yes, you can submit your deep-link. But if there's not really that much content, or the same content can be found on a cleaner page elsewhere, or the reviewing editor thinks that you are just trying to get extra listings to entice people to your shop, then it will probably be deleted.

We like content. If you have the definitive history on your product, we'll list it. If you've cobbled together three sentences along with clickable links to the purchase pages of all of your products, we'll sigh and throw it in the bin.

Re: http://www.nestingdollcollections.com

Last month I was told that this had about 2 dozen in front also. I have been waiting since August I think. Should I try to submit to another group ? What takes the editor so long ? Just wondering as I don't know the process of there job.

Please do not resubmit the site to other categories... this will only slow other editors down. If your site is awaiting review in its correct category then all you need to do is wait and someone will review your submission.

Re: http://www.nestingdollcollections.com

Ok I understand but the category says it needs an editor. So maybe that is why it is not looked at. I am trying to sell stuff on my site and need the customers. Should I try to become and editor of that category to speed up the process as I do understand the people selling in the category and have visited all of the sites already in there ??

Just wondering

Thanks

Re: http://www.nestingdollcollections.com

The ODP can always use new volunteers, whether in the category you are trying to be listed in or others. My only advise is to make sure that you do join for the right reasons. Editing at dmoz.org can be a rewarding experience for those willing to spend even just a few minutes a day making a contribution.

I would also like to point out, it is the editors in higher levels of the "tree" that spend countless hours lending a hand and trying their best to edit in categories with no *listed* editor. Just because there is no editor listed does not mean that the category is not being taken care of.

Re: http://www.nestingdollcollections.com

Many people have waited much longer than October to have sites listed, except for a few select staff the editors at ODP are volunteer we have jobs, children and lives ourselves. We try to do as much as we can. Some categories have active editors, and are updated fast. Others are tended to sproratically. As mentioned above, ODP is always looking for new editors.

Your submission is actually from 28/Nov/2002 and is currently waiting review with a couple of dozen other sites. It is not possible to tell you when it will be reviewed.
