Porn and ODP data

Hi,

 

Can anyone explain the policy of porn site owners using ODP data. I was checking links to my site and found a link from a porn site that was using ODP data. This is disturbing.

 

Can anything be done?

I'm afraid not. ODP data is provided to anyone, as long as they comply with our Free Use License. Believe me a lot of editors are just as upset to find their names and editor handles on hardcore porn sites.

This is why a lot of the editors have in their profile a statement like "I edit for dmoz.org and am not affiliated with any other site using this content".

 

The thing that really irritates some of us is that one porn site took all the text from a lot of editor profiles and other pages (not the working links, just the plain text) and posted it, evidently to try to fool search engine crawlers into thinking they had real content.

They've been reported to the major search engines as spammers, so they won't get any good from *that* trick.
