Guest Posted October 31, 2002 Posted October 31, 2002 Hello, I submited the site http://www.gimpsy.com to the following category http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Directories/ nearly a month ago. I am aware that this category it doesn't have an editor at the moment, so I expect that a delay is inevitable. Can someone inform me of the current status of this submission? Many thanks MC
dfy Posted October 31, 2002 Posted October 31, 2002 It's there, but unfortunately in a rather large queue. This category is one of the areas that attracts huge amounts of spam and general poor quality submissions, so editors have to steel themselves before working there. I'm afraid I cant say anything other than "please wait". Sorry.
Guest Posted October 31, 2002 Posted October 31, 2002 Hi, Thanks for the very quick reply! This is much appreciated. As to the spam problem - I wish there was something I could do about it. I could point out some good reviews about Gimpsy ( http://www.supportforums.org/article105.html ) and such like, but I guess the Editor can't see it... Considering that this particular category doesn't have an Editor, when would be an appropriate time to email the Editor that has the category ABOVE the one I submitted to? Is that OK to do it at all? Thanks MC
dfy Posted October 31, 2002 Posted October 31, 2002 It is OK to do it, but don't hold out high hopes. It's one of the areas where I would expect the editor gets a lot of requests, and he/she might be fed up with it all by now. It's worth a try though. Don't expect a reply from the editor. Many editors here have received 'hate mail' from aggrieved submitters, and once you get that you tend to be a bit wary of replying to anyone at all. If you get one, you're lucky, but don't expect it.
Guest Posted November 1, 2002 Posted November 1, 2002 Thanks again! Could you possibly tell me how many sites are awaiting in the queue for that category? If you can't disclose the exact number, any approximation will do... MC
dfy Posted November 1, 2002 Posted November 1, 2002 There are just over 300 sites waiting for review in that category. I suspect that a large quantity of them will be inappropriate, but someone will have to go through and check each and every one to determine that. It's a long process I'm afraid.
Guest Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Hello, Could I ask some kind soul to examine the queue again and see if the 300 sites are still there? Also, I have followed the escalation procedure to the letter. My impression is that with 300 sites waiting (if indeed that is the case) - noone will consider looking JUST at my site. Is that a reasonable assumption? Last, is there any value in resubmitting the site? I cannot possibly think of a more suitable category, so it will be re-submitted again to the same place. Is that a worthwhile exercise? Enjoy your day! MC
dfy Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Your site is still there in the, now slightly larger, queue. I have the system set to display all unreviewed queues in order, oldest submission first. If you were to re-submit your site, the new submision would overwrite the old one, moving your site to the bottom of the queue. Some editors sort in different ways.
Guest Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Hello, I am not very hopeful, but I thought I'll ask again, after a suitable interval from the last time (nearly a month). Any news, perhaps? Thanks MC
Guest wkallander Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 Hmmm... not able to see it on the public page? It appears for me... http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Directories/ Perhaps you should try flushing your browser's cache and try again... Hope that helps...
Guest Posted December 20, 2002 Posted December 20, 2002 Just shows to go you! I always maintain (in THEORY) that one should not ASSUME the worst, and I was proven right (wrong) again! Many thanks for your help - and my sympathy to the Editor that had to go through all the backlog that I understand was accumulating in that category! All's well when it ends well Have a great day MC
