michael2 Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 Website URL: http://www.secondsite.biz Directory: http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Web_Applications/ Thank you. _______________________________________________________________ Just in case you cannot find that listing in that directory... I believe I listed it in the directory below and at that time (over two months ago) there were approx. three indiviual listings there. I see there are no longer individual listings there and hence am I second guessing myself. ( I do keep records of my submissions, but lost this one when I had to reformat my OS last month. I apologize for any inconvience this may cause you). Directory: http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/
michael2 Posted May 3, 2004 Author Posted May 3, 2004 Search now running Thanks for the update. Google has now indexed the site and the search capablity has been released.
bobrat Posted May 3, 2004 Posted May 3, 2004 Just to clarify [in case anybody else reads this thread] - the ODP search is still not working. - your site has not been listed in ODP
michael2 Posted May 3, 2004 Author Posted May 3, 2004 Ahh... In other words the search page on http://www.secondsite.biz had nothing to do with the http://www.secondsite.biz being found in the DMOZ. Now, you say the ODP search is not working. Can you lend any further insight to http://www.secondsite.biz being included in the ODP without using the ODP search?...are you implying the site may already have been included? Thanks.
bobrat Posted May 3, 2004 Posted May 3, 2004 Now, you say the ODP search is not working. Can you lend any further insight to http://www.secondsite.biz being included in the ODP without using the ODP search?...are you implying the site may already have been included? I think you are very confused about this and I doubt the following is going to help. We are talking in this forum about ODP http://dmoz.org/ - you are talking about google http://www.google.com/ You keep saying you are listed in ODP - you are not and never have been, you have never been kicked out since you were never in. The ODP search is the box at the top of http://www.dmoz.org/ aand is not working right now The g:eek:gle search is http://www.google.com/ You get into Google in many ways, that are mostly off-topic to this forum. However one way is if some other site linked to you. Such as this list of sites that links to you http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=link:KV2ZqNVK6oIJ:www.secondsite.biz/ Then there is the Google directory (more here ) - http://directory.google.com - that is a copy taken of ODP data, Google uses ODP data just as many other companies do. But Google is not ODP and ODP is not Google. See here. We have no control of when Google copies the data. In your case it doesn't matter since you were never in ODP, and therefore were never in the Google directory. Google and ODP are two separate organizations.
michael2 Posted May 3, 2004 Author Posted May 3, 2004 Clarification My apologies. - on http://www.secondsite.biz there is a google powered site search. - that site search was not running until today. - I had the impression that http://www.secondsite.biz was a rejected submission because this part of the site was "under construction". I have activated that internal site search and am optimistic that if http://www.secondsite.biz was rejected because the "site search" was no yet operational, that this would no longer be a factor impeding www.secondsite.biz's inclusion in the DMOZ. From the sounds of things, no one in the ODP noticed www.secondsite.biz's google powered site search was not yet working...
Meta hutcheson Posted May 3, 2004 Meta Posted May 3, 2004 True: nobody here had yet reviewed the site, so nobody had noticed that the google site search wasn't working.
michael2 Posted May 4, 2004 Author Posted May 4, 2004 Review date....? Glad I activated it then...any idea when someone might be reviewing the site?
michael2 Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 just wondering... secondsite.biz...has anyone reviewed it or does it still reside in the queue? Thanks.
donwiebe Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Sorry, no change in status: it's still awaiting review.
michael2 Posted June 11, 2004 Author Posted June 11, 2004 what to do? I understand the ODP is human edited and it has rules. At this stage however, our site would benefit from a review and I'm wondering if there is an appealing way for me to say, "please review my site". I would gladly submit it to another directory which may even be more relevant as hindsight is 20/20 (i.e. new content, more developed service today than 6 months ago). Is there a way I can do this? Is the log jam on account of choosing a directory with an editor that is overwhelmed? Thanks. Any guidance most appreciated.
Meta hutcheson Posted June 12, 2004 Meta Posted June 12, 2004 No, there is no such way. If there were, 1000 spammers would be using it three times daily, in addition to the three decent folk a year who stumbled over it.
michael2 Posted August 4, 2004 Author Posted August 4, 2004 Status any change in the submission status of secondsite.biz?
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted August 4, 2004 Editall/Catmv Posted August 4, 2004 The minimum re-request interval has now been changed to 6 months, which would put it somewhere around December 10.
michael2 Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 How now? How now? Any change or news on the status of http://www.secondsite.biz? Thank you.
djdeeds Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 Still waiting in http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Web_Applications
