rejected sites - should I resubmit?

Hi,

I have a site I've been trying to get listed in the Open Directory for about 4 months and would really appreciate some advice. My site, www.onlineoutboards.com, was originally accepted and listed in Shopping/Vehicles/Watercraft/Parts_and_Accessories/Engines_Drives,_Propellers/. I tried listing in another catagory and was rejected, and I believe it was as this point that the original listing disappeared. I resubmitted to the original catagory a few months ago and I have not heard back or been listed.

I'm confident that the catagory is the appropriate one for the site. However, I'm not sure whether I should resubmit, or if it is on its way to being indexed.

Thanks in advance,

Franz

Hi,

There is no need to resubmit at this time. We are now aware of your site having dropped out of the category. I am in communication with the editor of the local category, and we will get the listing added back in shortly.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention,

Tim

I have a website www.meganutrition.com. I have tried unsuccessfully submitting it to the open directory. I submitted it to the appropriate category/sub category and have been waiting for over a year now for inclusion. I have emailed the editor and others and have not heard back. I am afraid to resubmit the site as I do not want to appear to be spamming the directory. Any advice?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Anthony

First of all, after a year with no response one should never worry about resubmitting. However, someone submitted your site again last month. Even still, a resubmission would not have gotten you or your site "in trouble."

It appears that a submission to Health/Nutrition was deleted as being off-topic, but there is still one submission waiting review (with about 300 other sites) in Shopping/Health/Nutrition, and a second submission made last month in Shopping/Health/Nutrition/Vitamins (with about 70 other sites waiting for review). Hope this helps -- Foe

The text search engine hasn't been updated since 8th April. You may have just missed the Google update. As editors, we cannot control either situation - staff update the search engine as and when they can (they are currently undertaking maintenance on it) and we're not Google.

(Though judging by some of the submissions we receive, people do perceive us as being Google /images/icons/smile.gif).

There is no reason to suppose there is a problem.

See, just suggesting a site doesn't impose an active obligation or priority or deadline on anyone. So you can't assume that after some time interval you set that anything has happened.

What might have happened?

Perhaps you created a site of a kind for which there turned out to be no surfer demand -- your mistake, but perhaps not a moral failure. There's no reason to resuggest the site, either.

Perhaps the site was reviewed, and the reviewer didn't find anything the ODP would be interested in (i.e. unique content in the form of information). Not necessarily anyone's fault -- your interests and the ODP just don't happen to coincide. Definitely not a reason to resubmit--that WOULD be spamming.

Perhaps (not likely) the site was so unique the editors are still trying to figure out how to position it. But there's no point in resubmitting unless you've learned a LOT about the ODP taxonomy in the meantime.

Perhaps the site is listed and you hadn't noticed.

In any case, the suggestion is the same. Go on with your life -- by suggesting the site you've done all the help for the ODP that you can. And all the ODP communication channels are designed to ... help the ODP.
