ctbaycharters Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 Please Check Hello, I have waited the 6 months patiently. I also submitted to the following other directories... http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Texas/Localities/P/Port_Aransas/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing/ http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Texas/Localities/R/Rockport/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing/ ...as we fish over 120 miles of Texas coastline. Please understand that it would be a great help to my business if I could get listed in time for the next fishing season Thanks Again Trey
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted November 9, 2004 Editall/Catmv Posted November 9, 2004 There's another one moved to the category to which you originally submitted. You will get at most one listing in DMOZ, regardless of how many times you submit. I don't edit in Texas, but your first suggestion or [cat=Regional/North_America/United_States/Texas/Metro_Areas/Corpus_Christi/]Corpus Christi Metro Area[/cat] might be your site's final resting place. It's not your choice. You may partially redeem yourself by listing all the categories you suggested your site to. If you don't, there's a chance that an editor will accidentally delete all of your submissions while cleaning duplicates, or more than one editor will delete duplicates on or about the same time, while making different choices as to which submission to keep.
ctbaycharters Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 Additional Categories The following categories are the ones that I know I have submitted to... http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Texas/Localities/C/Corpus_Christi/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing/ http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Texas/Localities/P/Port_Aransas/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing/ http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Texas/Localities/P/Port_Aransas/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing/ Other possible categories.... Please understand it has been some time since my submission. I know I thought about submitting in the below categories but I am not sure. I cant remember. http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Texas/Recreation_and_Sports/Outdoors/Fishing/Saltwater/ http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Texas/Localities/A/Aransas_Pass/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing/ This is the first site that I have submitted to dmoz. Please donot delete my submission. Only the ones you find inappropriate. It might be most appropriate to list under the following category as it covers all the metro areas we fish http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Texas/Recreation_and_Sports/Outdoors/Fishing/Saltwater/ Thanks again for your time. You guys a really the glue behind the web. Trey
ctbaycharters Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 More Info and a General Question about DMOZ Here is a map of the areas in which we fish. According to orgainization of the directory our service is applicable to the following sub-categories with in the Texas Saltwater fishing category. Corpus Christi Port Aransas Aransas Pass Rockport South Padre Island [broken External Image]:http://www.ctbaycharters.com/sitebuilder/images/mapimage2-553x550.jpg This image is locate on my site at... http://www.ctbaycharters.com/corpus_christi/corpus-christi-hotels.html Under help for dmoz... http://dmoz.org/help/geninfo.html It states that the "purpose of the ODP is to list and categorize web sites. We do not rank, promote or optimize sites for search engines." Is the goal of dmoz to categorize web sites for search engines or for humans? If its for humans than why would dmoz list my site in only one category when it is applicable for more? It reduces the benefit for both the user and the web site. Im not arguing. I just find it hard to defend that position and then go on to say that because I submitted to multiple categories that an editor might delete my submissions. Or maybe there is just confusion in where we actually provide services. I hope its that latter Trey
bobrat Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 No confusion, that is simply the rule that you get placed in the most specific regional category where your business is located. You may wish it were otherwise, and I don't disagree with your point, but if we allowed each business multiple regional listings, then we would spend way too much time trying to decide where and how many regional categories a site would get.
ctbaycharters Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 Okay I see the difficulty and understand. My business is located in Texas Actually in Corpus Christi, Texas. Again... Thanks for your time Trey
ctbaycharters Posted December 6, 2004 Author Posted December 6, 2004 Did my site get rejected? Did my site get rejected? Trey
bobrat Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 The only thing I can see is that an editor moved it to Regional/North_America/United_States/Texas/Localities/C/Corpus_Christi/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing - where it awaits review.
ctbaycharters Posted March 4, 2005 Author Posted March 4, 2005 good time to list Hey guys, Fishing season is about to start and I was wondering if my site could be listed soon. Thanks Again Trey
uzs980 Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 That depends on the local editors. Unfortunately we do status check only once every six months, so the next one won't be before June 6th. But feel free to check the category page every now and then, maybe your site will get listed before that date.
