Guest pix Posted November 10, 2002 Posted November 10, 2002 Hi all. I was Editor of this cat: http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Graphics/Image_Editing/Photoshop/Chats_and_Forums/ I have been travelling and camping for 5 months. I tried using the ODP reinstatement form, but I don't remember my password. <img src="/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" /> Any help would be appreciated. Sorry to inconvenience anyone.
beebware Posted November 10, 2002 Posted November 10, 2002 I don't know if it may work or not - but try entering your details on the reinstatement form without filling in the password box. Have you tried the password reminder page to get a reminder of your password? If they both fail, post here with your username and a meta editor will probably come to your assistance.
Guest pix Posted November 10, 2002 Posted November 10, 2002 Tks beebware. I tried the form previously, but it only gives me "Bad password". My username for ODP was also "pix". The reminder won't work for my situation because my original email account no longer exists. (It was part of my website- which is down now.)
beebware Posted November 10, 2002 Posted November 10, 2002 Ah. Can't remember your password AND no longer have the same email address? Oh. Erm... Only thing I can think about, is to contact a friendly meta (any of them mentioned as 'meta' on the 'senior editor' list. You'll need to change the link from the format of http://dmoz.org/editors/profile.cgi?editor=hutcheson to http://dmoz.org/profiles/hutcheson.html before the system will allow you to access the appropriate profile page (and then the 'Send to editor' feedback button). Don't forget to include details of your username, your old email address (for authentication reasons), the URL of this thread (just so they know and, maybe, post here 'when done') and any other details you think relevant. I can tell you that since you did just 'time out' (ie there is no removal noted on your records) you do stand a very high chance of getting back in <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" /> You've just now got to find someone that will give you the keys... If you did "get friendly" with a meta whilst you were still editing (and they are still a meta) - it may be worth contacting them instead of a 'random meta'. Unfortently, when a timed-out editor can't remember their password AND their email address is no longer valid, it kinda breaks all the ODP's automated systems - hence the need for 'more than usual' human intervention (well, I say human, but I meant 'god-like' as we are talking about meta's here...)
Guest pix Posted November 10, 2002 Posted November 10, 2002 Thanks beebware. <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" /> Super great advice. Chasm originally approved my app. http://dmoz.org/profiles/chasm.html So I emailed chasm about my situation. I also mentioned this thread.
Meta hutcheson Posted February 26, 2003 Meta Posted February 26, 2003 I don't know whether this got dropped or not. One suggestion: Apply under a new name. Mention the old name, and such details as you remember. (old e-mail address, categories, etc.) If the old name can be revived, it probably will be; otherwise the new name may be accepted.

Guest pix Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 No, sorry. The acceptance email was sent to my website email account. And my site got deleted (because I didn't pay). Pixelmask.com was my site. I still own the domain name - but the site and its emails were deleted. Thank you =)
