CarRentals Posted May 12, 2004 Posted May 12, 2004 I have spent another month trying to understand why we were denied entry into the directory, looking over the guidelines again and again. Can someone please give me some hints or at least tell me why we can't be in the directory so I stop wasting time looking for something 'wrong' with our site. http://www.carrentals.com Thanks for your help!
Alucard Posted May 12, 2004 Posted May 12, 2004 There is nothing "wrong" with your site, so looking at it, and reading our guidelines won't tell you that. So since there is nothing wrong with it, there is nothing you can "fix", either. This is simply one of the types of sites which the ODP has chosen not to list. So it's nothing specific to your site. You have been told this before in threads http://resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12994 and http://resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11267 and you have been told that the rules of this forum do not allow us to get into any further detailed discussion about it. Hope this clarifies.
CarRentals Posted May 12, 2004 Author Posted May 12, 2004 Type of Site I have no problem with our type of site not being allowed in the directory, but what disturbs me is the quality of our competitor sites that are in the directory somehow, while we are denied. Without going into the good/bad I know of these sites as our site compares favorably to most, I'm trying to figure out how our site is any different. For example, Our appropriate category is Car Rental consolidators: (this is exactly what we are, a Car Rental Consolidator allowing people to see various vendors rates in one place) http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Travel/Transportation/Car_Rentals/Consolidators/ which has: http://autoescape.com http://www.rentalcarguide.com/ http://www.holidaycarsdirect.com http://www.ofran.com/ http://www.rentalcar.com.au/ https://www.Skycars.com http://www.webrentacar.com http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/Transportation/Car_Rentals/ has: http://www.carrentalexpress.com/ If our site is not appropriate for dmoz, why were most of the above allowed in? Thanks for your help and understanding. Dave
CarRentals Posted May 12, 2004 Author Posted May 12, 2004 discussion I apologize if this is not the place I can discuss such topics, however, I know of no other outlet to achieve understanding. We are all in search of understanding Can you redirect me to a place/person who can help me understand this difference.....If this is not such a place...thanks again for helping a dmoz newbie, however, well read in the guidelines. Thanks David
spectregunner Posted May 12, 2004 Posted May 12, 2004 There are any number of websites containng forums where you can get verying quality of information. A couple that others have mentioned in the past are http://www.webmasterworld.com and http://www.ihelpyouservices.com Good luck.
Meta hutcheson Posted May 12, 2004 Meta Posted May 12, 2004 I think this is a fairly simple case of your interests not at all compatible with the ODP mission. It's a big web out there, and we won't try to keep you off it, or try to tell you what to publish on your sites. If you find a public who find your material valuable, that will be between you and them. If you find your material valuable enough, you can pay to promote it, and that also will be between you and your agent. But we ask that you accord us the same privilege.
