jasonlim Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 My company (URL : http://www.mybes.com) is a web hosting company - with target hosting web sites from anywhere in this world, not only regional. ODP had put me under a very deep regional category as follow : http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Malaysia/States/Kedah/Localities/Sungai_Petani/Business_and_Economy/ This can be true and not true because my major clients are mainly from USA, not from the small town of "Sungai Petani" as in the category ! "Sungai Petani" is just the base, but the web hosting service is not confine to this small town only. Reading the FAQ in this forum, I noticed that it is possible to put site in regional and general categories as long as it is really relevant. And the FAQ ask to pose in the forum asking on the possiblility of submitting one more time to the general category before I really submit it so that I'll not be punished for double submission. I'm thinking of submitting again to http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Hosting/E/ as this category is more proper for those who are searching for "hosting" companies. Any objection or idea ? I will accept any comment. Thank you very much.
Meta hutcheson Posted May 18, 2004 Meta Posted May 18, 2004 You may submit to that category also. Many businesses with a local presence and international market are listed twice. This is a standard exception to the "one submittal per website" guideline.
jasonlim Posted May 18, 2004 Author Posted May 18, 2004 Thanks Hutcheson for such a fast reply. After submission, shall I inform in anywhere to anyone that this is not a double submission by mistake, but need to be included in the general category ?
Meta hutcheson Posted May 18, 2004 Meta Posted May 18, 2004 That didn't quite parse. But no, you don't need to tell anyone anything special. Editors know how to deal with that situation. (For small-time stuff, we wouldn't care whether a single extra submittal is malicious or mistaken. We just delete it and go on. But what you describe is not even an extra submittal by our definition.)
jasonlim Posted June 21, 2004 Author Posted June 21, 2004 mybes.com not yet listed in general category I've been waiting patiently for 1 month for mybes.com to appear in a suitable category http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/...ment/Hosting/E/ after submitting it on 18-May-2004, but until today i don't see it listed. As discussed earlier, someone said a web hosting site can be accepted into local as well as global category due to the nature of the business. But my resubmission to the above category does not produce any result. Placing under the very small and deep category http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Malay...ss_and_Economy/ is totally not proper to my business ! My business clients are from worldwide. Can anyone tell me what I should do next ? I'm afraid many times resubmission will get my site banned. Please help. Thanks.
Meta hutcheson Posted June 21, 2004 Meta Posted June 21, 2004 The site is waiting review there. Resubmitting even once will not help you, and might hurt. So ... don't resubmit. One month is not long to wait. One year is not an unusual wait. But if you wait six months, you can bump this thread and check on the status again.
