Guest Posted March 26, 2002 Posted March 26, 2002 I was just wondering what is involved in being an editor? Also, what is the normal amnt of time it consumes to be an editor? I'm sure it varies but what would be an average amnt of time each week that you might be looking for?
rd400d77 Posted March 26, 2002 Posted March 26, 2002 >> I was just wondering what is involved in being an editor? Desire: To be a part of the creating the best online directory. Willingness: To read and follow the guidelines Cooperation: The ODP isn’t a committee, it’s a community. Enjoyment: Obviously you should enjoy reviewing websites, writing descriptions and listing sites. Time? Varies to extremes. Personally, I don’t want to know. /images/dmoz/purplegrin.gif
apeuro Posted March 26, 2002 Posted March 26, 2002 We welcome any contribution you would like to make. The only limits on how much you have to contribute is to make at least 1 edit in your first month as an editor, and then at least 1 edit every three months thereafter.
Meta enarra Posted March 26, 2002 Meta Posted March 26, 2002 Obviously we would love every editor to sign up and edit 24hrs a day 7 days a week. Obviously we can't ask that. Since this is a volunteer project, based solely on your enjoyment on helping out, no one will ever write to you and say "thou shalt edit one hour a day". We're just not like that. /images/icons/smile.gif Even if your login is de-activated due to inactivity, having it re-activated again is a quick and simple process after an e-mail is sent to a meta, or staff. Personally I spend a gigantic, probably unhealthy /images/icons/wink.gif , amount of time editing and participating in the community. But people such as myself aren't the majority of editors.

This would impair that editor's abilities to fund shelter and clothing, and lack of sleep would impair one's editing ability (as well as one's general health). (-:
Editall/Catmv lissa Posted March 26, 2002 Editall/Catmv Posted March 26, 2002 The time editors spend is highly varied, but I think many of the editors who are active spend 5-20 hours a week, some of that editing and some reading and communicating in the forums. A lot read forums during lunch, and then edit an hour or two at night, or for a chunk of time on the weekends. Warning - it is addictive! You'll probably find more time than you thought you had because, darn it, you are just going to find 5 more sites to list in that category, or catch up on your unreviewed, or adopt a sorely neglected category, or build a brand-new one from scratch, or figure out what happened to that great website you once loved, or ...
Guest Posted March 26, 2002 Posted March 26, 2002 I tend to go on and off. Sometimes I'm extremely productive and plowing right through the unrevieweds or building up a new category, and when I get tired of it I just lay low and do something else for a while. Then I become interested again. /images/icons/smile.gif
Guest Posted April 1, 2002 Posted April 1, 2002 Actually consumed time is not what really matters for me. I prefer some descent edits. Of course when I was a newbie I was spenting almost 15hours (yes its true ) everyday /images/icons/wink.gif I got so addicted!
