Your site is awaiting review in that category with over 350 other sites.

By looks of things that category attracts quite a lot of spam, so it could be some time before you are listed: but there is no need to re-submit your site (resubmit just updates the 'submitted date' on the site: and if an editor has the sort order 'show oldest first' enabled for the queue, your site will be moved to the bottom of the queue).

Thanks much for the update. Last question.... the category I submitted to has not had an editor for over 6 months or so. Do I stand a chance of becoming the editor, or is my trade (consultant to the industry), considered a conflict of interest? I applied once, goofed and was unable to submit successfully after that. The application page just would not submit.

thanks again.....

I'd suggest you stand very little chance based on the information in beebwares post. This is not based on your application or ability, but as the category is in a highly spammed part of the directory, new editor applications are much less likely to be approved. Added to that is the comment that there is approx 350 unreviewed sites and that makes it even harder.

Generally new editors are encouraged to apply for categories of less than 100 sites, but given the total sites involved in this cat is around 425 (listed and unreviewed) just is too large a cat for a new editor.

If you wish to apply in this area I'd try for http://dmoz.org/Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/Telemarketing/Automation/ which has 8 sites and around 20 waiting. Once you have honed your editing skills in that category you can apply for the parent category. Or choose a hobby or home town to start in, you don't have to stay in one tree once you have proven your ability to edit to the guidelines.

Regarding conflict of interest, no it won't count against you *provided* you are open and declare any relationships with the category. (webmaster,SEO,site owner, company employee, and any other)

An aside which may not be relevant in your case, but seems to be a widespread problem:

Do NOT, repeat do NOT do this at home UNTIL you are sure you have completed the site submission status. Beginning to chase the dragon BEFORE submitting the site can cause poorly placed submittals which take longer to get the appropriate category to be reviewed.

Point well taken. Thanks again for this information area where I can obtain FACT. It is comforting to know I am "in line", even though it may take a full year to gain the listing. Currently boycotting Turk made product until this war thing blows over AND I have gained the listing. Interested in a used hookah? Regards.....

Thanks, one last question, if I apply to a different category does that "void" this submission or can I be listed in two categories? I would much rather be listed in this category, if I can gain acceptance. There is another category that would work for me. One year later, I am starting to look for alternatives. Thanks again for the information..... Mitchell Eaves

Several questions, but a passing comment: you waited a year to look for alternatives? Well, it's done now, but it really wasn't necessary. You could have paid for a Yahoo listing, or advertised in Times Square, or put your URL on business cards, and we wouldn't feel jilted...even a little. It wouldn't have delayed or detracted from your ODP listing when/if you got one. Because The ODP is not a website-promotion service, nor do we require any kind of exclusive arrangement. Play the field.

It is possible to be listed in two categories. There are several common cases of that: one of them being entities with global reash but with a physical presence in a particular locality (i.e. major corporations, symphony orchestras, embassies, universities, etc.)

Normally, a business can have a website listed in one Business category: it is highly unlikely that your site would be listed in two business categories. It is more likely that both submittals would be moved to the same (correct) category, there to wait until an editor wanted to review them. But with that caveat, submitting once to each of two separate but plausible categories would NOT be considered spam, and MIGHT mean a faster review. If you think you know a better category than the current one, go for it -- ONCE.

The category you're in has for some reason not attracted a lot of altruistic volunteer editors, but does attract a lot of submittals. You should be prepared for further delays.

Thanks hutcheson for the reply, I have submitted under....Regional: North America: United States: New York: Localities: N: New York City: Manhattan: Business and Economy: Advertising and Marketing: Consultants. I was just concerned about breaking the rules and didn't want to jeopardize an ODP listing. I will also submit to another seemingly appropriate category in the hopes of gaining the ODP listing. Thanks again. Regards, Mitchell Eaves

Looky there! The category has an editor since my last check of a week or two ago. Any hope that submissions might be processed soon?

Please wait at least one month between status checks.

Hopefully the new editor will be successful in the category. Do not expect that because there is a new editor in the category your listing will be processed faster (though it seems like good news). I certainly hope it does - but hopes are just that when you are dealing with volunteers....
