Guest johnno Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 Hi, I submitted www.menorca-getaway.co.uk a few months ago and would like to find out its status if possible please. It was submitted to :- http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Spain/Autonomous_Communities/Balearic_Islands/Menorca/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/Vacation_Rentals/ Many thanks
beebware Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 It's still awaiting review in that category with less than 2 dozen other sites.
Guest johnno Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 I see this location is still looking for an editor, therefore I guess I could be in for a long wait so could you suggest any other category where it might fit. Many thanks
apeuro Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 Sites are added to the categories where they best fit, not to ones where the review time is the shortest.
Guest orbiter Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 There's always this option: http://dmoz.org/cgi-bin/apply.cgi?where=Regional/Europe/Spain/Autonomous_Communities/Balearic_Islands/Menorca/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/Vacation_Rentals Since its a nice small category and local expertise is probably needed to edit there, it might be worth a shot.
Guest johnno Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 Thanks for the advice orbiter but thats the category I tried. Unfortunately no editor at the moment.
Guest johnno Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 Apeuro, of course I want this sight in the most appropriate category, but I've not searched through looking at all of them. I thought you might know of a small business category that might have been better.
Guest momathome Posted November 19, 2002 Posted November 19, 2002 >>Thanks for the advice orbiter but thats the category I tried. Unfortunately no editor at the moment.<< Just because no editor is listed does *not* mean that there are not editors painstakingly working on these "editor-less" areas of dmoz. Editors in higher categories on the tree spend enormous amounts of time and effort helping out where there does not necessarily appear to be help. Just have patience and it will be reviewed <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" /> Or... as orbiter suggested, try to apply for the category yourself. We could always use new volunteers!
Guest orbiter Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 Thanks for the advice orbiter but thats the category I tried. Unfortunately no editor at the moment. That was a suggestion to apply to edit that category. It's small and regional, which seems to be the general profile for new editors. Taking the time to review all the sites in there and join the editor ranks might be a good way to speed up your listing and build up that particular category.
Guest johnno Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 Sorry Orbiter I didnt realise thats what you where getting at. Can anybody apply for any area within ODP where an editor is required or do you need to have some knowledge of the region you apply for?
Meta hutcheson Posted November 20, 2002 Meta Posted November 20, 2002 Part of the application is to explain what knowledge of the topic you have. Depending on the topic, the bar may be set fairly low. "I've driven through Podunk County twice on my way to visit relatives, and it looked like there were some good fishing sites. I've begun researching them on the web." is probably an acceptable level of knowledge for a small category. You may have to show more academic knowledge to get into Quantum Mechanics, but any evidence of a complete absence of cultural or aesthetic sense is about all you'd have to show to get to Britney_Spears/Fan_Sites. The "sample URLs" are more important. If you know what goes in the category, and can find and describe them, you may have what it takes to become an unpaid editor.
Guest johnno Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 OK, thanks for the information. Its pobably not the category for me as I've never been there. Regards
Guest johnno Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Hi, Another month has passed by and still not listed, could you give me an update please. It was submitted to :- http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Spain/Autonomous_Communities/Balearic_Islands/Menorca/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/Vacation_Rentals/ Many thanks & Happy Christmas
Guest johnno Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 Could you give me an update as to what progress this sites listing application has made. Many thanks
Meta windharp Posted March 25, 2003 Meta Posted March 25, 2003 still waiting for review in the given category. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
Guest johnno Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 can someone give me the latest news on this site submission please.
jimnoble Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 I didn't check the submissions in the Menorca category, but had you thought of submitting it to Peterborough where it is eligible for listing?
Guest johnno Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 thanks Jim good idea - but it would also be nice to get it in the correct category along with the peterborough local regional one.
Guest johnno Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Jim would you suggest http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Cambridgeshire/Peterborough/Travel_and_Tourism/Accommodation/ as the appropriate regional directory or would it be better in the business one?
Guest johnno Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Thanks Jim I've submitted a request for a regional listing but would still like to find out how the original request in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Spain/Autonomous_Communities/Balearic_Islands/Menorca/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/Vacation_Rentals/ is getting on if anyone can help please
jimnoble Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 It's still in the queue. I'm afraid you'll have to be patient.
Guest johnno Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 Just thought I'd make an anniversary post about this web site as it still hasn't managed to get into ODP. Its actually slightly more than a year since a first posted a query about this site (18/11/02). Anyway has it moved up the queue any? Regards & Happy Christmas Johnno
jimnoble Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 Yes it's still awaiting revue. Please don't think of it as a queue by the way - it's more of a heap which an editor can process in any order s/he chooses. I tend to do the easiest ones first for eample - ie. those with guidelines compliant titles and descriptions.
