fluke Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 Hi there I was just wondering if I could check whether the submission of the site http://www.sanibel-view.co.uk was successful, and also the current status of it. i submitted over 2 months ago - but on (what i now know to be) bad advice, submitted again at the start of last month. any information would be greatly appreciated the catagory is: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Florida/Localities/F/Fort_Myers/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/Vacation_Rentals/ thank you for your time.
donwiebe Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 The submission has been received and is awaiting review.
fluke Posted June 3, 2004 Author Posted June 3, 2004 If you will forgive me for asking this kind of question: I noticed the catagory did not have an editor - is there a large submission volume to whichever catagory editor will be reviewing it? (ie will it be along time?)
Meta hutcheson Posted June 3, 2004 Meta Posted June 3, 2004 That is not something that we can tell. You know better than we how many competitors there are, and ... they could all be reviewed for listing in any order. Oh, sure, chances are that an editor would take a quick look at the unreviewed queue before going to Google for more -- but there is no guarantee. And there are a few hundred editors who COULD edit in that category, but they could all just as easily edit somewhere else. (We don't mind this, because we're happy for them to edit anywhere -- you know, whatever builds the directory. But the result is, we don't know where the construction crew will be tomorrow. Remember the Microsoft slogan: "Where do you want to go today?" (Followed of course by them telling you where you're going to go instead.) We don't even ask editors that, and they don't tell us.
fluke Posted June 3, 2004 Author Posted June 3, 2004 Remember the Microsoft slogan: "Where do you want to go today?" (Followed of course by them telling you where you're going to go instead.) Hehe OK - thanks alot for your reply actually - while i am replying - i had thought about volunteering to edit the category, as i have alot of spare time at the minute - although i would have thought this against the rules - i could not see anything in the guidelines saying this was not allowed - would the rules allow someone to add their own site - or would it be considered unethical? (forgive me for asking this question in this thread/forum but i thought i may aswell rather than starting a whole new thread - if you want me to i will start a new thread in the "becoming an editor" forum) thanks
spectregunner Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 Many many editors have added their own sites -- that is not the issue. The issue is twofold: 1. If you want to be an editor for the sole purpose of adding your own site, the barrier to entry is very, very high. 2. You need to be able to address, in your application, how you would deal with competitor sites.
