chatterbug89 Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Well, I'm back...my forums have gotten realy popular and I kind of slide away from here...anyways... Remember when I said I found a lot of sites that shoulden't be in the directory...well...I diden't find all of them, but I did happen to come accross some (sorry, coulden't find the abuse submission for catagorys so I am just posting here...sorry) NES Price Guide - Price guide for NES 8 bit systems. on http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Console_Platforms/Nintendo/NES/ --linsk to some porn site.. The NES Forums - Contains forums. on http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Console_Platforms/Nintendo/NES/ --links to some site completely unrelated to the specified topic. I will probaly find some more later...I'm going to go see Harry Potter at the movies now
Guest wrathchild Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Thanks for the heads'-up. We appreciate help in finding such sites. In the future, please post in the thread specifically for such reports: Report Hijacks, Dead Links & Inappropriate ODP Content Here ONLY in the Abuse Reporting forum.
chatterbug89 Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 Opps, diden't see that...all I saw was the abuse forum...but it said not to post specific stuff such as specific listings and catagorys...it must have been a sub catagory that I overlooked. One question thou...how does stuff like a porn site get in a directory catagory that a lot of kids and teens go to....that is kind of scary...Also...that listing also shows up in google so their is a double threat.
Meta nea Posted June 10, 2004 Meta Posted June 10, 2004 What generally happens is that a site is "hijacked" - the domain name becomes available, and some completely unrelated company picks it up really quickly because the URL is listed in directories and search engines. We don't make any difference between different kinds of inappropriate content. It's equally bad if it is a porn site, a herbal medication sales rep or a SEO company - if it's inappropriate for the category we want to get rid of it from that category pronto. Thanks for your help! Curlie Meta and kMeta editor nea
Guest wrathchild Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 For the record, I handled the listings in this report. The site you reported as a porn site wasn't when I looked at it. In fact, it wasn't working at all. I suspect the host discovered the violation of their TOS and nuked it before I saw it.
