PortofDreams Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 I just wanted to make sure I was following the proper procedure for this. My web development company used to be at portofdreams.com, but is now at portofdreams.net. My online store is now at portofdreams.com. I re-submitted portofdreams.com over a month ago but it hasn't changed, so I just submitted an update request, but can't specify the new directory path. This is how it should look: Portofdreams.com Shopping: General Merchandise: P PortofDreams.net Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Dynamic and Multimedia: P Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Terry A. Cox
PortofDreams Posted June 16, 2004 Author Posted June 16, 2004 P.s. If I was penalized for multiple submission, I apologize and beg for leniency as this is kind of a tricky thing as my site was listed, but the content changed, and there was no real documentation I could find on how to handle appropriately. I appreciate any help. Thanks, Terry

Meta kokopeli Posted July 4, 2004 Meta Posted July 4, 2004 I apolagize that your inquery got lost a few times in the shuffle and had to be bumped http://www.portofdreams.com is not listable and has been denied, see ODP Guidelines http://www.portofdreams.net is currently pending review in http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Dynamic_and_Multimedia/P/ If you don't see it listed in 6 months, you can return to this thread and request a new update.
PortofDreams Posted July 5, 2004 Author Posted July 5, 2004 ??? Now what could possibly be not listable about PortofDreams.com? It is a valid online store? I 100% disagree with that decision unless there is something I am missing. Can you shed a little light on this so I can fix it and make it listed? According to the guidelines, I am in full compliance.
bobrat Posted July 5, 2004 Posted July 5, 2004 http://www.portofdreams.com/ Please read Why won't you get into a discussion about why you won't list my site? Then review http://resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=396 under POSTING INFORMATION: -- If your site has been rejected http://www.portofdreams.net Without reviewing this site as to whether it is acceptable or not, you should note that it not viewable under the Mozilla browser refer to http://resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18395
PortofDreams Posted July 5, 2004 Author Posted July 5, 2004 Understood I understand why we don't argue denials and apologize as I hadn't read that section. I wasn't arguing, I am just one of those who truly don't know why. Is it possible an editor can email me at terry@portofdreams.com to let me know what about PortofDreams.com is unacceptable? It is very important for me to get the listing fixed for the two sites as your directory feeds Alexa and I am getting hits on our shopping site meant for the web development. As for the other site (portofdreams.net), I will fix it before an editor reviews.
Meta kokopeli Posted July 6, 2004 Meta Posted July 6, 2004 I received your email, but as it says on my profile I do not answer questions via email and they should be posted in this forum. The site was denied due to a lack of unique content, and that is all I am going to say, I apploagize if it seems we are being cryptic but there are reasons we do not go into detail. If you read the section of the guidelines I referred to and you consider the majority of the products on your site it should be apparent why it was denied. Also, as bobrat already pointed out: "Rejected and not likely to be accepted anywhere" is a reasonable status. My advice would be to explore other options for promoting your site. [edited to add] This is just in regard to http://www.portofdreams.com
PortofDreams Posted July 17, 2004 Author Posted July 17, 2004 Response We also carry tropical music and products from 10 other vendors. Not too mention we are niche oriented and only carry tropical and nautical related items. From a search of the directory, do you not think the content is unique? Just because alot of people carry a manufacturers brand, thats only 1/3 of it in my eyes. The way it is displayed and the niche involved should be just as heavily weighed. Sure there may be 1000 sites that carry the line in question, but someone looking specifically for tropical decor is looking for my site, not the other 98% of those. Only 1 of the 6 items featured on the home page are even from the vendor in question. There are less then 10 online stores that I can find that carry the tropical musicians I do. Just an opinion. If it wasn't semi-unique content, I wouldn't be doing business.
