Guest thewebexpress Posted December 2, 2002 Posted December 2, 2002 I was just wondering if the search database would be updated by the end of the year? the database has not been updated in two + Months <img src="/images/icons/confused.gif" alt="" /> Search database last updated on: Sat Sep 28 00:54:00 PDT 2002
MorseRj Posted December 2, 2002 Posted December 2, 2002 As noted in a million other threads <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />, there are some technical problems with the RDF, and thus the search database (and anyone who uses ODP data) will not be updated. Staff is aware of the situation and is working on it.
stevesliva Posted December 3, 2002 Posted December 3, 2002 See the Bugs and Features forum... we're hoping for an update very soon.
Guest thewebexpress Posted December 3, 2002 Posted December 3, 2002 MorseRj I was simply inquiring for any new news on the database update I was not looking for an insult! in most business things change from day to day. I know that you get asked the same questions a lot but please have patience. <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />
MorseRj Posted December 3, 2002 Posted December 3, 2002 I was not looking for an insult! By no means did I mean to be insulting anyone. I added the wink at the end of the sentence to show I was giving you a hard time. Please accept my apologies if it came of the wrong way. <img src="/images/icons/blush.gif" alt="" /> However, for convenience of everyone on the forum, it might be best to keep the topic to one thread, so we don't create confusion across the boards. <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" /> http://www.resource-zone.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=data&Number=13239&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1
Guest johnno Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 The ODP search database is now sometimes showing 'Search database last updated on: Tue Dec 3 16:22:30 PST 2002' but non of the sites I have added since the September update seem to be included. Any news ?
MorseRj Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 No news, it looks like a glitch. http://www.resource-zone.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=status&Number=13700&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1#Post13709
dfy Posted December 8, 2002 Posted December 8, 2002 I've been reminded that there are two servers handling the dmoz search function. It's possible that one of them thinks it's been updated recently and that you get a different server depending on what you search for. I very much doubt that either of them have really been updated. The RDF problem still hasn't quite been cured yet so there isn't any new data to generate a search update from.
giz Posted December 8, 2002 Posted December 8, 2002 Don't forget that http://dmoz.org/rdf/tags.html shows you the latest status of the RDF.
Guest johnno Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 ODP database search now showing 'Search database last updated on: Mon Dec 9 21:32:07 PST 2002' but still non of the sites I have added since the September problems are included. Any info? Many thanks & Happy Christmas
Meta tuisp Posted December 18, 2002 Meta Posted December 18, 2002 As giz said, see http://dmoz.org/rdf/tags.html . This file has been updated on Dec 9th, but it still says 'RDFs *not* pushed'. The current run is not yet completed. <crossing fingers>
Guest johnno Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Thanks tuisp, I wasnt sure what to look for in the tags.html but you've made it clearer. Ta
Guest thewebexpress Posted December 24, 2002 Posted December 24, 2002 If your servers are having problems for a day or two it's a small problem, for a week or two it's a big problem, for longer than a US tax quater... well you can't refer to that as a glitch!
apeuro Posted December 24, 2002 Posted December 24, 2002 It's not the servers that are causing the problem - it's the software that compiles the RDF. A server upgrade in September got the program that produces the RDF into a funk from which it is yet to recover (we're hoping that this is the week).
