Intrawords Posted June 26, 2004 Posted June 26, 2004 Dear Sir/Madam I'd like to know the status of the submission for this website (http://www.intrawords.com) Also, if you consider this site to be added, will it be sumbitted to any other search engine? if so, to which? and being a human process, when will it be added to DMOZ? In case you don't feel this site to be added, will we keep informed why not? Many thanks Kind regards, Intrawords staff.
sole Posted June 26, 2004 Posted June 26, 2004 We can't give you a status check unless you give us the name of the category to which you submitted. [readme]readme[/readme] It will tell you a number of things you need to know. We don't add to search engines directly, although search engines do crawl our directory and use what they find to add to their database. When will your site be added, if it is added? No one knows. I think you should read our FAQ.
Intrawords Posted June 27, 2004 Author Posted June 27, 2004 www.intrawords.com category Hi again Opps... not sure which category... sorry. It's likely to be added at: Business/Business_Services/Communications/Translation/ Thanks for the FAQ link but in case this information will not be correct or should I change of category, how can I proceed? Thanks in advance!
donwiebe Posted June 27, 2004 Posted June 27, 2004 If you give us a clickable link to the category per the [thread=396]forum guidelines[/thread], we'll take a look and see if it's there. If it isn't we'll figure out how to proceed at that point.
Intrawords Posted June 28, 2004 Author Posted June 28, 2004 don't know how to proceed really sorry... but I don't know how to do next... Think this is the link where I submitted intrawords.com Business: Business Services: Communications: Translation: Multiple Language: Europe: Spain I've clicked to the forum guidelines but I don't know what else to do. Thanks for your help!
sole Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 The best thing for you to do at this point is to resubmit. After you have resubmitted, copy paste the url of the category to which you submitted in a secure location. Write yourself a note. Then in 30 days come back to this thread and ask for a new status check and paste the url here. I actually looked in both the categories you suggested and I did not find your submission. It may be somewhere in between, but to be safe you should resubmit.
limey Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 Hi there, don't know if it's any help to you, but there is a great discussion forum over at http://www.cre8asiteforums.com/ It tells you exactly how the search engines use DMOZ and how to tailor your website to get better ratings. Chris
Meta nea Posted June 28, 2004 Meta Posted June 28, 2004 Two points, in addition to what Sole said: first, your site does not work for me when I try to view it using the Mozilla browser. That shouldn't hinder your listing but it could mean that it takes longer before your site is reviewed, if editors can't look at it. Second, since the site is in English, Spanish and French you can also submit it to http://dmoz.org/World/Fran%c3%a7ais/Commerce_et_%c3%a9conomie/Services_aux_entreprises/Traduction/Multilingue/Europe/Espagne/ and http://dmoz.org/World/Espa%c3%b1ol/Negocios/Servicios/Traducci%c3%b3n/ . All submissions will be looked at independently, and if you are included in one category there is no guarantee you will be listed in the other two... but you could end up being listed in all three. Intrawords Posted June 28, 2004 Author Posted June 28, 2004 getting closer... Hi again! First of all, thanks to Limey for the link http://www.cre8asiteforums.com Very useful site as well, I hope it can clarify some things to me. Nea, You said you can't visit my site at http://www.intrawords.com ?? That comes as a great surprise to me since I'm not experiencing any issue about that... Lastly, thanks for the advice. I'll resubmit my site to several categories in different languages and be back with a valid URL in a month ;-) Kind regards.
jparris1 Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 ...You said you can't visit my site at http://www.intrawords.com ?? That comes as a great surprise to me since I'm not experiencing any issue about that... Just FYI I can't view your site either using Firefox. It never loads. Safari can get the page to load but with some display problems. Perhaps too much "IE optimization".
Intrawords Posted June 30, 2004 Author Posted June 30, 2004 now I guess why you can't view this site... could it be because you're using a Mac browser or am I saying nonsense? thanks, jparris.
Meta nea Posted June 30, 2004 Meta Posted June 30, 2004 I'm using Mozilla on a Mac, yes - I suspect jparris1 is, too, from the Safari reference... and I'm seeing what jparris is seeing. The page loads and loads and loads and the wheel spins and nothing happens. Curlie Meta and kMeta editor nea
Intrawords Posted July 1, 2004 Author Posted July 1, 2004 uuffff... sigh of relief.. thanks for testing. well, see u in a month ;-)
Meta hutcheson Posted July 1, 2004 Meta Posted July 1, 2004 It's not just Mac. I'm using Mozilla on Windows -- I'm guessing there's some poisonous Javascript (less likely, Java, VB, or something else) on the page. <later>Operation finally timed out. The HTML source looked ... almost blank -- a mere shell of a page. Perhaps server scripting doing a bad job of agent detection. In any case, you should be able to download Mozilla and see the same thing. The usual caveats apply: broken server-side code can cause a site to be rejected inappropriately, or may cause delays in review. It doesn't always, though.
Meta hutcheson Posted July 1, 2004 Meta Posted July 1, 2004 Couple of points overlooked earlier: 1) Please wait six months between status requests here (new guideline) 2) If the site is rejected, there will be no notice or explanation sent. If you ask about it here, we'll tell you its status, but generally can't give a reason. It's nearly always some form of "insufficient content" or "doesn't work".
