Content Requirements

I have recently completed a homeowners directory and would like to submit to the ODP. My question is: I have had very few submissions as the directory is only a few days old. If I submit it now and it gets reviewed relatively quickly do I run the risk of being rejected for lack of content? Once the directory gets some submissions it could prove to be very helpful to users.

Yes it would probably be rejected.

 

To qualify for listing it needs to be as good as the best sites in a category, not slightly better than the worst in that category.

 

 

It is possible that the lowest quality listings get culled from a category when the highest quality are so much better and there are several of them; so in a category with a lot of high quality listings, we wouldn't now include something that was very marginal. If it were an already listed site it might be about to be deleted.

 

Every new directory created doesn't give the consumer more choice, it causes the surfer to have to look in more places to find what they want. It is a dis-service to the internet community.

I'm not an editor, nor do I play one on tv, but I hope to be one someday, so here's my take on your question. If you're not dead sure that your site has enough content at this moment to be considered a valuable resource, I would recommend not suggesting it. Wait a little while, gather more content, and make sure it is so rich that a person would have to be blind to not see how worthwhile it is, and you have much better odds of being listed.
