Guest Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 History: I submitted severel times starting perhaps 4 months ago. I did this without an understanding of your constraints. The catagory did not have an editor. I tried another catagory that was relevant that had an editor. I checked back, saw I was not listed and resubmitted where there was no editor. I applied to be an editor, I thought you need help and I know the catagory, though perhaps not all the problems that an editor can face. I worried about conflict but left that up to you. I want to see accurate and honest listings. That is the only way the net can be usefull. I was turned down but that is fine with me. I still have my origional problem of getting listed. Once I found out that there is a waiting list and that my application would be reviewed eventually and that continuing to apply actually delayed getting reviewed I stopped applying. I now am not sure exactly where I submitted. There are several possible places for "leather" that would apply. I see some in craft, some house and home, and some sites I know under geographic location to name a few. I see one listed in both. I believe I applied under http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Crafts/Leather/ That is maybe the best because I know other sites listed there and my site is the same type. Could you please check and see what my status is? Thanks, Henry
motsa Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 You were listed a couple of weeks ago in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Clothing/Accessories under the URL http://store.yahoo.com/handmadeleather .
Guest Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 That's fine, thanks. That brings up something I was wondering about. It must be the yahoo store thing. I thought I was just being hosted where I could set up the on-line purchase and it seemed convenient. Now I find it isn't that simple. When entering www.leathergoodsconnection.com there is then a redirect to the URL that you used. Is that so? and what does that mean as far as spiders are concerned. Sorry to trouble you with this, I know it isn't your job, but since you listed my URL as http://store.yahoo.com/handmadeleather you would know why this was done and the information may be of use to me. Besides I try to learn something new every day and it's 4:36 here and it's been a wasteland so far today. Henry
uzs980 Posted December 6, 2002 Posted December 6, 2002 It's just our Guidelines on Redirects: We only refer the URL were the site actually is, not the redirecting one. This rule was made up become the are sites which have numerous redirects all to the same site. By listing only the actual URL and not the redirecting ones, we prevent listing the same site several times. Yours, Robert
Guest Posted December 6, 2002 Posted December 6, 2002 Thanks Bob for your reply, I quit using Bob and switched to my middle name when I heard someone from Boston pronounce it. No need to respond to this, but thanks for letting me know what my underlying URL is. It seems yahoo hosting comes with baggage. The net is still in flux and everyone is trying to figure out how to make ends meet. FYIO... I was solicited by an outfit that uses a computer program to somehow produce megga URLS that redirect to a site to guarantee top ten rankings for specific key words, so I understand. Jeez.. just quit with that and lets just be relevant, it's that simple. I think it was Hillery Computing or was it Bills Guaranteed scores.com, anyway lets make those people go away so wee can hav a moor cohereint wurld wIde net. Henry
