killua Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 I don't know if this is the right forum to post my question. Last month, my website is showing on Google SERPS as http://domain.netfirms.com/ . But last week, Google made a major crawl and it became http://www.domain.netfirms.com/ . Why does this happen? I read many articles that Google recognize this pages as different URLs. I have more inbound links for non-www version and it have higher PR which is 1 compare to 0 with the www version. Because of this, the non-www versions should be listed. I can't do a 301 redirect because my host don't support it. It's hard for me to change and pay for new host. Please, if anyone knows how to resolve this problem, I'll greatly appreciate it.
Meta pvgool Posted July 8, 2004 Meta Posted July 8, 2004 Sorry, we can only answer questions about ODP. You will have to ask this question in an other forum. I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
Editall Callimachus Posted July 8, 2004 Editall Posted July 8, 2004 Most web servers are configured so that there is no difference between http://www.x.y.z.com and x.y.z.com. There are exceptions. Either your host's server taked the www on automatically, or google did. In either case you should direct your question to them. thehelper Posted July 10, 2004 Posted July 10, 2004 Try asking your question here http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF8&safe=off&group=google.public.support.general Hope this helps.
kh80 Posted July 11, 2004 Posted July 11, 2004 Try asking your question here http://groups.google.com/groups?group=google.public.support.general Again? BTW, you also can't find any www.dmoz.org link on the result pages anymore. Greetings, Karsten
thehelper Posted July 11, 2004 Posted July 11, 2004 I am afraid there is no easy answer to this that I can see. Since you can't do a 301 redirect you are hard pressed to even change servers. What I would do is go and buy my own domain name then pay the 10 bucks or less a month for webspace on a regular web server then put up a big link on my old page that says WE HAVE MOVED that links to the new website. I would do this ASAP. I would then send an email to all the sites that link to my old web address and ask them to please update there links to the new address. That is the only solution I can suggest for you. Hope this helps
ubnserved Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Your host is accepting both urls You should not have a problem as long as both of the links work. (they do) "BTW, you also can't find any http://www.dmoz.org link on the result pages anymore. Greetings, Karsten" I notice the same thing with my website also http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=www.globalwebmonitor.com It worked a week or so ago and i checked it this morning and got no results. must be dance time.
killua Posted July 21, 2004 Author Posted July 21, 2004 Yes, few days ago and yesterday, I checked my website again on Google and it is now showing on the SERPS without the www version. I was very thankful that it happened. BUT TODAY, it happened again. It is listed as www version. Maybe a Google dance? What do you think? Yeah. Google is not listing some DMOZ links on Google. Will this affect your ranking?
killua Posted July 24, 2004 Author Posted July 24, 2004 Now, it works agains. I think it's just a google dance.
Russell Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 It's really not a problem, since most web servers are set to point both http://www.domain.com and domain.com to the same place. It doesn't make any difference to how your site is viewed.
brmehlman Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Indeed. And, more relevant to this forum, it has no effect whatsoever on your ODP listing.
iKwak Posted August 5, 2004 Posted August 5, 2004 Some sites have different PR for URL with www. and without the www. I don't get it.
Meta hutcheson Posted August 5, 2004 Meta Posted August 5, 2004 That is a question for the Google experts, and outside the scope of this forum. Your life would have been simpler if you'd done things right from the beginning -- and never put that totally useless code-bloat "www." in ANY of your links.
Eric Bland Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 with and without the www In my experience, I prefer to use www in my links. I have the same PR with and without the www at both my sites: Eric Bland feel free to take a look if this helps you. Copyright Website Bland
Ricky Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Well from my view google treat www and without www as link from same site.. not sure about treating as different page or single page !
Eric Bland Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 reply They are treated as separate pages, but the same site. _________________ CEO Forum PR 6 Links Eric Bland SEO
harleyx Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 ^^ which is why the pagerank can differ greatly. If you've got all your inbound links coming to http://www.something.com, google perceives something.com as a different page of the same site, with no inbound links.
