akishore Posted September 27, 2004 Author Posted September 27, 2004 Quotes from WebProNews I just read the following on one of the post by Jasber: ("My first topic here, I'm a bit of a lurker. I figured I would talk about my recent dealings with a Dmoz editor. I had submitted my site to Dmoz probably 3 months ago. After about a month, I asked on resource-zone, and was basically told to wait longer. After waiting another one or two months, I decided it couldn't hurt to contact the editor of my category directly. After sending him an e-mail, he promptly added my site to dmoz, and he even submitted his own site to my site (my site is a directory). I've heard a lot of things about "evil editors" at Dmoz, and I understand first hand that things can be quite slow sometimes. However, if you are in the same situation that I was in, perhaps a friendly e-mail the editor would help? Best of luck.") How does a person find the name of the editor for a catagory? I like to know the status of my submission for http://www.edpsoftware.com as I submitted my site 4 months ago. I submitted to computers->software->Human Resources->Personnel Scheduling. This does not appear to be a very large catagory. I have not seen any new site in this catagory for a long time. So I am having a hard time to understand the reason for delay. Today I got the WebProNews and the topic was "DMOZ Isn't Open After All". Here a quote from this article: (SitePoint poster Kimberly commented about her experience with DMOZ, "I submitted under a heading only to learn 3 months later that the #3 player in my market was the editor. So I picked another heading… at least I am in now. It is not a fair system." Judging from Kimberly's statement, it would appear that she was the victim of another's ethical shortcomings. If editors allow personal feelings and competitiveness to affect their judgment, obviously they shouldn't be part of the approval process.) Your comments on these quotes will be appreciated very much. Are these quotes true? I do not know what to make of these quotes. Please help me understand. Thanks. old_crone Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Read This Post for answers to your question on the WebProNews article and donwiebe gave you the status of your site. If there isn't a named editor for the category you submitted to, go up the category tree until you find a editors name. But do not expect an editor to respond - few do and all are encouraged to not respond to site owners.
akishore Posted November 19, 2004 Author Posted November 19, 2004 I submitted our website to the following catagoty: Computers: Software: Human Resources: Personnel Scheduling (40) As you can there are only 40 entries in this catagory. There has been no new entry for a long time. It does not appear that there is a lot of activity in this catagory. I am unable to understand the reason for the delay in reviewing our listing for inclusion in this catagory. I can understand that some catagories have a lot of activities/sunmissions and there is only so much an editor can do. I have not seen any new entry in this catagory for a very long time. I wish I knew a little more about the reason for delay in reviewing this site. Thanks. Anand Kishore EDP Software http://www.edpsoftware.com (506) 454-7776

Could you please tell me the status of the following URL: http://www.edpsoftware.com It has been over 7 months since I submitted the site. akishore Posted February 23, 2005 Author Posted February 23, 2005 Site submission Could you please provide me more details as to what time frame to expect for this review. Is there a problem with the site? I would appreciate a little better idea as to when to expect this listing in your directory.
akishore Posted February 23, 2005 Author Posted February 23, 2005 www.edpsoftware.com Could you please tell me the average time it takes to review the submission for the catagory I submitted to? I submitted my website to the following catagory Computers: Software: Human Resources: Personnel_Scheduling The website url is as follows: http://www.edpsoftware.com Would appreciate this information very much. Thanks. Anand Kishore EDP Software
Meta nea Posted February 23, 2005 Meta Posted February 23, 2005 We can't give you the information, since we can't estimate even roughly when any given site will be reviewed. Please see the FAQ, linked at the top of this page, for more information. :moz: Curlie Meta and kMeta editor nea
spectregunner Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 Since it is not clear that you have taken a look at the FAQ, I'll specifically address some of your questions. 1. What is taking so long? This is not a website listing service. It can take from a few days to infinity for an editor to look at a given site. 2. No one had made any changes to the category in a year. That really means nothing. It could mean that there were no changes worth making. It could mean that the category is overflowing with spam and that no sane editor wants to approach it. It could mean tha the category is of absolutely no interest to any of the editors, so none have gone there. 3. There is no named editor. No biggie. Probably 95% of all sites that are added are added by editors who are not the named editor of the category where they are doing their edits. Any given category has more than 200 editors who can edit there. 4. Is there a probelm with the site? We haven't a clue because we haven't reviewed it. 5. Why can't you give me more information? There is no more information to give. It is (as of the last status check) waiting in what is presumably the correct category, waiting for an editor who chooses to edit there to do so. We don't know if this is happening as I type, or will happen in 2008. 6. Well send someone there. There is no one to send. Editors work where and when they wish, bound only by their permissions.
Meta hutcheson Posted February 23, 2005 Meta Posted February 23, 2005 >Could you please tell me the average time it takes to review the submission for the catagory I submitted to? Well, we can tell you it's smaller than the standard deviation, which tells you all you need to know.
akishore Posted March 1, 2005 Author Posted March 1, 2005 Thank you very much for all the replies by various people. I noted that some new sites have been approved in the following catagory Top: Computers: Software: Human Resources: Personnel Scheduling It is the same catagory I submitted to. Would it be possible to for any one of you to tell me how long did it take for last listing to be approved/reviewed? Is this kind of data vailable to anyone of you? Thanks a lot. Anand Kishore EDP Software http://www.edpsoftware.com
uzs980 Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 These data are not available - and editor don't have to review sites ordered by time of submission. You may check the category every now and then to see whether your site got listed. If you don't see your site listed on July 27th or later, feel free to come back to this thread and ask for a status check.
