Firecamp Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Please advise of the status of http://www.coloradofirecamp.com submitted to the category http://dmoz.org/Business/Agriculture_and_Forestry/Forestry_Products_and_Equipment/Fire_Fighting/ the second week of July. Thank you. ps, I also submitted our site to the regional category http://dmoz.org/Health/Public_Health_and_Safety/Emergency_Services/Fire_Fighting/North_America/United_States/Colorado/ on 8-18-04, after reading other threads about submitting to both topical and regional categories.
donwiebe Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 The submission in the [cat]Business[/cat] has been received and is awaiting review. If you don't see it listed sometime in the next six months, please feel free to return for a status update on or after 20 February. The second category you mention isn't what we mean when we say you can submit to both topical and regional categories. In that case the only Regional categories that count are subcategories of http://dmoz.org/Regional/ .
Firecamp Posted August 21, 2004 Author Posted August 21, 2004 Thanks for the reply. I have a second question about the Regional hierarchy. The second category you mention isn't what we mean when we say you can submit to both topical and regional categories. In that case the only Regional categories that count are subcategories of http://dmoz.org/Regional/ . Can regional listings only be in generic categories? I started in the Regional category to find the Colorado firefighting sub-category (I couldn't find a wildland or forest firefighting sub-cat for Colorado.) If you go to the DMOZ page http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Colorado/Health/ and click the "fire fighting services" it jumps to the sub-category I submitted to, with Health as the top category instead of Regional. But the sites listed (fire depts. and fire organizations) all have a physical presence in the state, just as we do. Thanks again.
donwiebe Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 Yes, I suspected that's what happened. Generally the recommendation to submit to both topical and regional categories includes the caveat that the Regional/ submission should be made to the specific locality of the buisiness. I'm not sure if that makes sense in your case. Don't worry about it, though; the editors will figure out what to do when they review your submissions.
