sellmyride Posted February 27, 2005 Author Posted February 27, 2005 Greetings This is my second request. Last time I requested a status check was August 20, 2004, 02:41 AM I submitted http://www.sellmyride.com on Jan-Feb 2004. In category: http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Classifieds/Automotive/ Could someone let me know the status of this submission please? Thanks.
Meta kokopeli Posted February 27, 2005 Meta Posted February 27, 2005 It was deleted as being a duplicate which confused me. After more digging I see you also submitted to http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Classifieds/Automotive/Classics/ and it is still pending in that category.
sellmyride Posted February 27, 2005 Author Posted February 27, 2005 Thanks for the reply. Ok duplicate in what way, the site was submitted to the same category more then once, or the site was submitted to more then one category? Also I did make a request for status back in Aug, and said it would have been in one or the other category, then got a reply from a mod, informing me that it was in, http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Classifieds/Automotive/ and not the other. Now its in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Classifieds/Automotive/Classics/ I am just as confused as you are, to what's going on with the summation? It was submitted more then a year ago. Looking at that category, it was updated ( Last update: 19:13 PT, Wednesday, January 26, 2005 ) There are only 4 levels and 35 listings on that category, it doesn't not look like a busy category at all. I hope I'm not sounding rude, but why would that take so go to get reviewed or posted? Thanks for the help.
Meta hutcheson Posted February 27, 2005 Meta Posted February 27, 2005 Um, lessee, how shall I best summarize this? "You also submitted to http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Classifieds/Automotive/Classics/ and the submittal is still waiting there for review." Yeah, that works for me. Short, simple, straightforward: if that confuses you, you've got a future in politics. "Auto classified ads" seem to be one of those "instant business e-scams" where people sell other people on the notion that they can obtain absolutely non-unique off-the-shelf classified ads software, install it, and then just sit back and watch the money rolling in from all the business happening -- ignoring the fact that they don't HAVE any ads, and won't GET any ads because all sensible people are going to sites that actually already have ads (because they were created by people who actually had access to ad streams, such as from local papers.) So there are bazillions of empty classified ads sites submitted -- and it's no fun at all to walk through them and check to make sure that every single one is as worthless as simple logic tells you it almost has to be. This is a place where an editor can review dozens of sites and not find a single one that surpasses the best sites already listed in ANY way. (In other words, no unique concept, no content unique or not, and no reason to list.) Your site is mixed in with many other similar sites, and editors are simply spending time elsewhere, where they can add more value to the directory for the sake of the surfers.
Meta kokopeli Posted February 27, 2005 Meta Posted February 27, 2005 The only reason I said anything at all about one copy being deleted is your previous response was It's waiting review in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Classifieds/Automotive/ You submitted more than one copy (the one you were told about before was moved to the classified section from Shopping/Vehicles/Autos/Custom_and_Collector_Cars/Customized_Cars/Rod_and_Custom), and one was deleted. The one that was deleted was the one you were informed of earier--my response was different as a result. Multiple submissions always tend to confuse things, in addition to making more work.
sellmyride Posted February 28, 2005 Author Posted February 28, 2005 Thanks, hutcheson and kokopeli for your help. As far as my site is concerned, its far from being some cookie cutter, off the shelf auto site. I have spent long hard hours, sleepless nights, days and months to start it from ground up, from a empty page to where it is now. It has only been just now, that I have started to charge for ads, so I can at least start to recoup something back for my time and bandwidth. It is very unique to say the least, but who am I trying to convince, I'm sure you're not the editors for that category anyways. Now with all that I have gone thru with this mix-up, and the info that you have told me, do you or anyone on here think I have a chance at all? I guess its another 6 months. Thanks again guys and see you all in the summer.
