Guest deanharris Posted January 5, 2003 Posted January 5, 2003 Submitted to http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Full_Service/ I just had a chat with an editor who feels I'm in the correct category, but am concerned perhaps I submitted to the wrong category. I do plan to add CDROM production very soon...so if it's not in the correct category by 1 issue or so, perhaps it will be by the time the editor gets around to reviewing it. Thank you in advance...keep up the good work, folks. dstanovic Posted January 5, 2003 Posted January 5, 2003 I would say that you submitted to the correct category. I did have to look through your site to find that you do offer services that would allow placement in this category and found these under your recommended hosting services. If you can implement all/most of the services offered by the recommended hosting service you belong in /Full_Service Your site is in the queue of 200 + other of which quite a few are duplicates etc. I will clear out the duplicates today once editing picks back up to speed It may be quite a while before your site is listed so I would suggest submitting to your Regional location.
motsa Posted January 5, 2003 Posted January 5, 2003 [nevermind....I must've been blind ]
Guest deanharris Posted January 5, 2003 Posted January 5, 2003 Thanks so much for the feedback. I am trying to submit to my region now- dmoz is very slow to repond. To many spammers submitting thier nasty sites. Kind Regards, Dean Harris http://www.ElegantWebs.com
dstanovic Posted January 5, 2003 Posted January 5, 2003 I am trying to submit to my region now- dmoz is very slow to repond. To many spammers submitting thier nasty sites. Today is backup day, so the system grinds to a halt. Spent the last half-hour selecting duplicates etc. in unreviewed to delete only to be greeted by a white screen {edited: There are now approximately 30 less sites in the unreviewed queue....)
Guest deanharris Posted January 5, 2003 Posted January 5, 2003 Ah. But that is why they pay you the big bucks! Dean
beebware Posted January 5, 2003 Posted January 5, 2003 Yep, that 20% pay rise we had from the ODP just before Christmas has come in really handy. Remind me again - what's 20% of nothing?
Guest deanharris Posted January 5, 2003 Posted January 5, 2003 LOL. I know. Well, you really do have all legitimate web designer's gratitude! Regards, Dean
Guest deanharris Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 Richard, Can you possibly give me an update for my site? It's been 2 months since I posted the original request. I know you guys are over worked and appreciate the efforts. Regards, Dean C. Harris http://www.ElegantWebs.com
MorseRj Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 Still in the queue with a few hundred others. It could be a while.
Guest deanharris Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 Ok- just about 2 months have passed since last request. Will it still be a "while"? Can you tell me when I originally submitted my site? Any way to narrow down "a while" if that's the answer again? We talkin' 2 more months...6 months? Over 6mos longer? TIA Dean C. Harris http://www.ElegantWebs.com
Alucard Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 Your site is listed in http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/New_York/Localities/F/Freeport and is still in the list awaiting review at http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Full_Service/E/ along with 250 others. An no, I'm afraid we can't give you any idea how long it will take for this site to get reviewed. As you can probably imagine these categories are exceedingly busy, and the editors are volunteers, and we don't have a timetable for reviewing.
lachenm Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 [Edited]Alucard was faster by 2 minutes![/Edited]
Guest deanharris Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 Oh, well. I understand. Still frustrating though. If it shows when I originally submitted can you tell me. Just curious. Thanks for the feedback. Dean
lachenm Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 You've been waiting almost exactly 5 months (your site shows a submission date of November 29, 2002). I wish we had more qualified volunteers to edit so that the waits would go down, but at least you have been listed once during that time. Please be patient, and your other submission will eventually be reviewed.
Guest deanharris Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 I know. I suppose we should just be glad you folks volunteer. have a nice day. Dean C. harris www.ElegantWebs.com
Guest deanharris Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Hi folks...just checking in about 3 months from last post. How many sites are still awaiting review in my category? Almost 9 months now. TIA Dean C. Harris http://www.ElegantWebs.com
Guest deanharris Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 OK. 9 months now. Mirror mirror on the wall how to get into DMOZ at all? Status check please. Thanks!
donaldb Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 It's still the same as it was above. It's listed in the Regional category, but not in the Designers category. As you can imagine, everyone and his brother is a web developer these days so the unreviewed submissions in those Designers categories never seem to get much better. Looks like you just resubmitted to the Designers category. Probably not the best thing to do as this often has the affect of overwriting your original submission with the new one. Depending on how the editor works on the unreviewed listings here, this could have a very negative affect. If the editor works on the listings in date order, then you just went to the bottom of the pile. If the editor works on them ordered by URL then you might have a chance, but if they work on them by title then you are once again going to have a long wait as you listed your title as 'Web Design Company'. BTW - Nice description in the new submission
Guest deanharris Posted August 31, 2003 Posted August 31, 2003 donald, I *never* resubmitted my site. What gives yo indication that I did resubmit? I have submitted sites for clients, but certainly wouldn't resubmit my own site. I know enough to come here..why on earth would I do something that may have a negative effect after waiting 9+ MONTHS? Oh, well. I'll check back here once in a while. Thanks. Dean C. Harris http://www.ElegantWebs.com
donaldb Posted August 31, 2003 Posted August 31, 2003 Well someone resubmitted your site on 23/Aug/2003 04:18:33 EDT using your e-mail address.
Guest deanharris Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 Someone? Do you log IP's? If not- pretty easy to submit all of my competitors over and over if I wanted to cause problems. I knew it was in the que. I knew the editor told me it was in the right category. I know resubmitting is bad. I've been a paid member of Webmasterworld.com for a while now. I ain't stupid. Not arguing...obviously someone resubmitted it- but it wasn't myself or anyone affilated with my company. I'm a one man shop. Regards, Dean
Meta windharp Posted September 1, 2003 Meta Posted September 1, 2003 Of course we log IPs for submissions - but as you can imagine we don't hand them to the public for privacy reasons. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
