Abyss Posted January 6, 2003 Posted January 6, 2003 Hello dear DMOZ editors. I am sorry that I have to violate this forums' rules from my very first post. The problem is that I forgot the directiry where I submitted my site to and I can't now link to it. Maybe you could find yourself? I tried to submit my site a few months ago without any success and then I tried once again but I had some kind of mistake after I completed submission. Please understand that I didn't want to neither spam or abuse DMOZ. My site is pretty nice, straightforward and has a lot of good content, about 50% of my content can not be found anywhere else. Google PageRank is 5. Please tell what might be a problem that my site is not in DMOZ now? Thanks a lot Julia
beebware Posted January 6, 2003 Posted January 6, 2003 There are over 460,000 categories in the ODP - each with their own unreviewed queue - it is IMPOSSIBLE for check every single queue looking for a single site. However, I can tell you that your submission was received but due to a technical problem you would have recevied the "Unable to determine your IP address - your submission has been moved to the Misplaced Sites folder" message. It is currently awaiting editor intervention to move it to the appopriate category you submitted to (which, at the moment, I cannot inspect myself due to time constrants), but since you submitted near the middle to the end of December, it is still extremely early to be expecting any sort of status update. We recommend leaving a MINIMUM of a month between submitting and enqurying. >> about 50% of my content can not be found anywhere << The problem is, no editor has the time to inspect every single site in detail. The reviewing editor will take a 'snapshot' of your site by reviewing random sections (for example, if there is a long list of URLs on a page, I just randomly scroll my mousewheel and click on the link it falls on): if in this snapshot they discover that the majority of the site is replicated elsewhere then they will be relucant to continue "digging". However, if they click on one link find it "not unique" but click on another one or two at random and find good quality unique content then you do stand a chance of being listed. We don't care about your Google Pankrank or anything else though.
Meta hutcheson Posted January 6, 2003 Meta Posted January 6, 2003 No, it is impossible for us to tell that you submitted it to http://dmoz.org/editors/editcat.cgi?cat=Society/Relationships/Romance , but it is possible to say that it's too soon to ask. In another month or so, bump this thread.
beebware Posted January 6, 2003 Posted January 6, 2003 hutchenson probably meant the following URL: http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Romance/ (the other link is password protected and is for editor usage only)
Meta hutcheson Posted January 6, 2003 Meta Posted January 6, 2003 Hey, beebs, I didn't say anything about you giving away the source of our uncanny psychic knowledge of the category, did I? And I actually meant the editor link, since I didn't expect anyone but editors to click on it. Anyone else is, of course, free to use beebware's link. Otherwise, what beebware says is true. And I'll work on the misplaced "L"'s for awhile.
Abyss Posted February 3, 2003 Author Posted February 3, 2003 Hello again good guys! Over a month passed from my post and as you adviced I post again. Could you check if my website is still there to be included and maybe you can tell when? <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />
uzs980 Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 Your site is still waiting for review in that category along with more than 200 other submissions. There is a lack of editors in this part of the directory, so it might take some time. You may ask again in this thread after a month or two.
Abyss Posted February 18, 2003 Author Posted February 18, 2003 As advised I am asking again. Almost 1,5 months passed since my last post. Could anyone comment if there're any positive changes with my submission status?
motsa Posted February 18, 2003 Posted February 18, 2003 Only 2 weeks have passed since your last post....it's too soon to ask again. Please leave at least a month between requests.
Abyss Posted February 18, 2003 Author Posted February 18, 2003 Ooops, mixed dates in the forum. Sorry Sorry Sorry. I see it's only 15 days. Well, since I finally did it, maybe someone could drop a note? <img src="/images/icons/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Abyss Posted February 27, 2003 Author Posted February 27, 2003 bump End of the month. And soooo much time passed since my submission. <img src="/images/icons/confused.gif" alt="" />
dfy Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 It's still there I'm afraid, the queue doesn't seem to be going down very rapidly, and there are a lot of sites in it. Sorry.
Abyss Posted March 23, 2003 Author Posted March 23, 2003 bump <img src="/images/icons/crazy.gif" alt="" />
Abyss Posted April 4, 2003 Author Posted April 4, 2003 So many months passed... Please anyone... Check my site status... I contacted the editor of the parent category but nothing happened. Wht can I do to get listed?
Meta kokopeli Posted April 5, 2003 Meta Posted April 5, 2003 All we can do is ask that you try to be patient. There is a large queue of around 300 sites waiting for review. Your site is still waiting in that queue, and it is likely to take awhile longer to be listed. Sorry to not be able to offer better news.
Guest thoul Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 Sorry, but there are NO STATUS CHECKS THIS WEEK. Please reactivate this thread after the upgrade.
Abyss Posted August 27, 2003 Author Posted August 27, 2003 Still not in. Any chance to see it there soon?
pnm Posted August 27, 2003 Posted August 27, 2003 The site is still waiting in http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Romance/ with several hundred others. Since editors work on many different tasks, there's no way to predict the next time someone will stop in on this category. And even when someone does, (s)he is not required to look at the unrevieweds in a certain order, or to even look at them at all. The submission will be reviewed sometime; sorry we can't be more specific than that. Check back in a couple months, if you like.
Abyss Posted December 27, 2003 Author Posted December 27, 2003 Any news, please? A lot of time passed. I've been a good girl and waited for many many months
Meta kokopeli Posted December 27, 2003 Meta Posted December 27, 2003 Sorry...but no change at this time. Your suggestion is still pending review in that category.
Abyss Posted February 9, 2004 Author Posted February 9, 2004 Hey guys, I understand that the directory is getting too big to manage, and Internet is probably too dynamic for just a team of belivers (even a big one), but... a year! I mean, what's the purpose then? Is it a time-check? Or maybe my nitch is not that interesting to edit? C'mon! I have a love poems site and I hoped to be in DMOZ on last St.Valentine, but it looks like I won't make it even for this one... ... ... ... help people need love info now ;) not another supa-cool PHP/ASP/SQL/LINUX portal... or? do you build for users or for yourself?
Abyss Posted March 15, 2004 Author Posted March 15, 2004 HELP! AAA! I am not spamming, I am just getting dumb and crazy for net getting in. I do want this listing, I do need it. I do deserve it. Oh, please...
Alucard Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 OK - here's something you can do - CALM DOWN. You are right - that corner of the directory does not get a lot of interest and, since we are a volunteer organisation, we rely on interest of editors to review sites. If it is so important to you to be listed, I would suggest you look at other means of promotion, because a time-to-review here is definitely not something we can predict.
