Guest Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 I submitted our URL in early August 2002, and DMOZ listed it at the end of September (http://dmoz.org/Reference/Education/Colleges_and_Universities/Admissions/) but still has not indexed it. If you search for "collegedata" in the OD search field no site is found. It's been over five months, and I'm wondering when we might expect our site (CollegeData) to be indexed. Thanks.
beebware Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 Correcting links: http://dmoz.org/Reference/Education/Colleges_and_Universities/Admissions/ (leave a space between the URL and anything else to make it auto-clickable) URL: http://www.collegedata.com/ Your site is already listed in the Admissions category (as CollegeData - Offers college and scholarship search tools, college profiles, an admission chances calculator, advice on choosing, applying to, and paying for college, and articles on admission and financial aid.) as well as the Guides one (as CollegeData - Contains college and scholarship search tools, plus articles and advice.). The ODP search engine runs off the RDF dump which has not been correctly updated since September (search this forum for further details). We are hoping this problem will be fixed RSN (Real Soon Now). But your site IS listed in the ODP - so there is nothing to worry about.
Guest Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 Thank you for your quick response. As I mentioned before, I know the site is listed. The problem is that the Google Web Directory, which uses ODP listings, will not list it at all until it is indexed (i.e., becomes searchable) in the Open Directory. An e-mail response from Google states flatly that the site is NOT LISTED AT ALL in the ODP, even after I gave them the relevant OD links proving that it is. They based this on a keyword ("collegedata") search on the OD. Unfortunately, the OD's indexing failure has serious consequences beyond the OD itself. Any idea when the ODP search engine will be fixed?
Meta windharp Posted January 10, 2003 Meta Posted January 10, 2003 (What would I give if people would actually read some other forum posts before posting their questions ) The DMOZ RDF datafile which is used for DMOZ search and for all downstream datausers like google has not been generated since september due to technical problems. We hope the problem is solved soon, but cant promise anything. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
