Hi All,

We will be launching a new free site very soon called dmozupdates.com. Our first concept will be to allow free members to monitor dmoz for additon and deletion of a url in a specific category, as well as some general stats about Dmoz as a whole (# of Cats, #of URL's, #Added , # Removed).

What we are looking for is any other ideas editors, metas and users would like to see in a free service like this?

Might be interesting to hear how you propose to do that. What your methodology would be, and what "benefits" you would be offering to people who want to track a URL or an update.

I think that it is a great idea. I know that it would be wonderful to have a list of rejected sites (with the reason) where people could just look for their site. If they don't find it, then it is still waiting for review. A similar list of newly added sites would be great too, although all you have to do is just look in the category where it was submitted to see that it was added.... :)

I have a question.....how many active editors are there? Is it hard to become one?

I think I can say with pretty good confidence that such a list will never appear.

That could probably be put together from the available public data, with the right programming skills.

There are approximately 10,000 active editors. The application process is not particularly hard, but it does require some thought and care in putting the application toegther. It is not something that one can/should "dash out" in 10 minutes.

I agree with specter, a list of sites rejected will never happen, but with the system we are going to build you will be able to add a specific URL, and designate a few specific categories to monitor. Then our system will tell you if your URL appears or dissapears from Dmoz.

At least that is the initial idea.
