Guest Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Hi, I'm confused. My listing for giftbasketsbyheather.com appears in the WEB portion of Google, but we have yet to be listed in the DIRECTORY portion under Shopping > Gifts > Gift Baskets > G I don't understand... are we doing something wrong? Our URL that we want listed is http://www.giftbasketsbyheather.com/miva/merchant.mv Do miva pages give problems? Can someone set me straight on what's going on, or NOT going on? Thank you! jay <img src="/images/icons/confused.gif" alt="" />
totalxsive Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Firstly, we're not Google. We just provide the data and they use it. Secondly, you are listed in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Gifts/Gift_Baskets/G . You will also be listed in http://directory.google.com/Top/Shopping/Gifts/Gift_Baskets/G when the next database update is made available, which hopefully won't be long now.
Guest Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Thanks for your reply... we've really been at a loss on this. Can you explain your reasoning behind your statement that we will be listed in the Google directory on the next db update? Are you saying that DMOZ hasn't provided an updated db, and that's why we're not in Google? You probably get this all the time, but I'll ask anyway. What are the general timelines for DMOZ submitting updated DB's? Every month? Six months? Thx again, jay
Guest Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Your main URL http://www.giftbasketsbyheather.com/ is listed in the ODP category you mentioned. It may take some time before you appear in the Google directory, because we first have to make a new RDF dump (which, for technical reasons, has not happened since the end of September), and then Google has to take the new data to update their directory. We don't know when they update.
Meta hutcheson Posted January 10, 2003 Meta Posted January 10, 2003 The "normal" rate is that ODP cuts a "release" once a week, and Google picks up one, once a month. The schedule has on occasion been missed by both parties. Lately, as has been mentioned elsewhere (just search the forum for "RDF") the ODP has had problems. But the real answer to your questions is: once we list the site, it's out of our hands, and we can't know. The bread is cast on the waters, and you need to consult your meteorologist to see what the flood predictions are.
