danmagicman7 Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Hello, i would just want to know the status of www.worldsoldestsport.com it is submitted under http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Sports/Wrestling/ Thanks for checking, Dan
beebware Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 You only submitted _4 days_ ago! It is waaaay too early to even think about asking for a site submission status - we recommend a MINIMUM of a month after a submission (3 months is the best figure). Asking too often/too quick a frequency just wastes editors time...
danmagicman7 Posted January 15, 2003 Author Posted January 15, 2003 sorry about that. If it is too much to ask could i please ask how many people are in the list? If you dont want to answer thats fine...im waiting but i just want to get some idea.
danmagicman7 Posted January 15, 2003 Author Posted January 15, 2003 Alright, thank you for your info.
danmagicman7 Posted January 17, 2003 Author Posted January 17, 2003 How do i check my log file for my account...if im all by my lonesome in the que, i would like to check the status of my site being reviewed, thank you.
danmagicman7 Posted January 21, 2003 Author Posted January 21, 2003 If i am all by my lonesome in a que, can an editor review it soon?
dfy Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 Someone will get round to it one day. Sit tight and be patient.
Editall/Catmv lissa Posted January 21, 2003 Editall/Catmv Posted January 21, 2003 There is a listed editor who has logged in this month. Give them a chance to see the unreviewed.
danmagicman7 Posted February 4, 2003 Author Posted February 4, 2003 He obviously hasn't logged in for a while. Is it possible for one of the sports editors to review my site? It is the only one in the waiting list. Thank you. If the editor is looking at it right now, i appologize. But if the editor has been inactive for a while it may take a while for him to log in again. Thank you
danmagicman7 Posted February 7, 2003 Author Posted February 7, 2003 Could someone please respond, thank you.
motsa Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 A lack of response would likely indicate that no one is going to go review your site right this very minute.
Guest rfgdxm Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 There are unreviewed sites in the ODP over a year old. That your site has been in the queue only one month isn't atypical. Patience.
danmagicman7 Posted March 4, 2003 Author Posted March 4, 2003 I e-mailed the editor of the category a month ago with some questions about his section, and he never replied back. It seems he is inactive? Is their any possible way i could be reviewed by another editor in the http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Sports section or the http://www.dmoz.org/Sports/Wrestling/ section or put in some other que. Could you act as if the http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Sports/Wrestling/ section didn't have an editor and do what you normaly do if a section does not have an editor? The only reason i am a little antsy is because it seems to me that the editor is inactive, if he were reviewing the site and it took this long and i was getting some sort of update, i wouldn't mind. If this takes another month or three i dont care, i just feel that that category is a "lost cause" for waiting on it. Thank you very much. -Daniel
giz Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 No category is ever without an editor. If there is no named editor, then any editor in the parent categories, any Editall, or any Meta editor can also get to it. Someone will eventually get to it. It won't be me, I mostly edit in /Science categories.
Meta kokopeli Posted March 6, 2003 Meta Posted March 6, 2003 <<I e-mailed the editor of the category a month ago with some questions about his section, and he never replied back. It seems he is inactive?>> If an editor does not reply to an email, it is not necessarily an indication they are inactive. Often editors do not reply to personal emails/feedback. There are days I receive numerous emails requesting updates, status, etc. If I researched them all I would never get any editing done. In addition, sometimes the reply is not what the submittor would like to hear and they become upset. For those reasons (and more) many editors do not reply or do what I do and send them the url of the resource zone. As we are all volunteer, it is not required that email be answered. Some answer email, some do not. Also, as giz explained, no category is competely without an editor. Other editors can access categories that do not have an editor listed as well as categories that do. <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />
danmagicman7 Posted April 5, 2003 Author Posted April 5, 2003 Ok, good point kokopeli, but if i am the ONLY one in the que and he hasnt checked it in 4 months, do you think he is inactive? If other editors have access to this category, can someone place me in a que for another editor who does have access to this category? You could put me in a que for the editor or somthing. I dont care if the list is 100 people long. I just want some hope of it getting reviewed. If i am the only person in the que and on the top of the list with no responce from the editor, i feal a little hopeless. But if i am in a list of people 100 long, and i keep on moving up and up, i have some hope of it getting reviewed. Please understand my situation. I am not urging that this be done quickly, i am just urging somthing could be done so i have some hope of it getting reviewed within this YEAR. Thank you very much. **edit** another point i would like to make is based on what giz said. He said someone would "eventually" get to it. I would really like it if i could be in a que for someone "eventually getting to it" so i have some track of a time estimation i can make for myself. My client is really pushing me to find answers so i really do not know what to do. He finds "evenutally" an unacceptable answer. **end edit** -Daniel
dfy Posted April 5, 2003 Posted April 5, 2003 >> My client is really pushing me to find answers [...] He finds "evenutally" an unacceptable answer. << Then you shouldn't have promised him something you can't deliver. The queue for the correct category is the only place your site should be waiting. If we moved it elsewhere, another editor might get to it sooner, but he or she would just move it to where it should be listed, and it would sit in the queue again. Sit back, be patient, and remember not to promise ODP listings to your clients again.
Meta hutcheson Posted April 8, 2003 Meta Posted April 8, 2003 >He finds "evenutally" an unacceptable answer. Welcome to a world of finite possibilities. True. Acceptable. Relevant. Pick any two.
brmehlman Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 Still awaiting review in that category, along with several other sites.
danmagicman7 Posted November 4, 2003 Author Posted November 4, 2003 Hello, have you gotten an active editor yet in that category? I think the problem is that people think that editor is active, but i have been #1 on the que for 10 months. It would not take very long to review one site, could someone in the wrestling section or other section get to it? thank you
thehelper Posted November 4, 2003 Posted November 4, 2003 Sorry to say it is still waiting. You know, the Wrestling category only has 44 sites - looks like the perfect category for a new editor - hint.
spectregunner Posted November 4, 2003 Posted November 4, 2003 i have been #1 on the que for 10 months. To clarify: there is no queue, there is a pool/heap of suggested submissions that can be queued by editors in different ways, date of submission being just one of them. Some editors look at site suggestions by date, others do not, so being "first" when queued in that particular manner means only that your site might be reviewed first, it might be reviewed last or it might be reviewed somewere in between. It would not take very long to review one site, could someone in the wrestling section or other section get to it? While we understand that you are anxious to have your site considered for possible inclusion in the directory, as a matter of strict policy, we never, ever, review a site based on a posting here. The reason is simple: the first time we did so, the floodgates would open and everyone would use this forum to try and speed up their listing. Be patient, my friend, be patient. We add several thousand sites every day, and someone will eventually get to looking at your submission.

I have submitted and application 3 times already... all of the times being rejected for that very category. :o
