jswafford Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 How recent was your last application? You may want to write it up in Word or Notepad, use spell check, then paste into application. Save your document so you have something to reference if the application is denied. You need to be 100% honest with your answers. Also, use our Becoming an Editor thread for more advice and questions regarding your apps. http://www.resource-zone.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=bemome

danmagicman7 Posted March 20, 2004 Author Posted March 20, 2004 If at first you don't succeed, try, try again You can do it - I have faith in you! I submitted http://www.worldsoldestsport.com a year and a half ago. Is it still in a que? Has it been reviewed yet? Thanks for the update.
Meta nea Posted March 22, 2004 Meta Posted March 22, 2004 I'm afraid it's still waiting for review in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Sports/Wrestling . Curlie Meta and kMeta editor nea
danmagicman7 Posted April 18, 2004 Author Posted April 18, 2004 I"] . It is obvious that this category needs an editor. I have tried 6 times over the past year, and have not been accepted any of the times. I do not have a doubt in my mind that adding this site would take less than 5 seconds. It very apparent about what it is. have a look for yourself. http://www.worldsoldestsport.com
bobrat Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 No change in status. It's quite likely that this category and many thousands of others need editors, but it's better to have sites remain unreviewed and categories unattended than to assign editors that would in the end create more mess for someone to clean up after them. An editor who added any site in five seconds, probably would not last too long. [And since I answered 4 days before I should have, please wait till at least May 22 for another status request]
danmagicman7 Posted September 9, 2004 Author Posted September 9, 2004 This submission is pushing 2 years now. Status check please?
donwiebe Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Sorry, there's been no change in status: it's still awaiting review in [cat=Shopping/Sports/Wrestling]Shopping: Sports: Wrestling[/cat]. If you don't see it listed sometime in the next six months, please feel free to return for a status update on or after 12 March.
danmagicman7 Posted January 1, 2005 Author Posted January 1, 2005 Okay, my 8th submission to be an editor over 3 years has been rejected (maybe some teen who became an editor likes pressing the "reject" button?). The category has not had an editor for over a year now. I double checked spelling, completeness, everything. I provided many useful wrestling shopping sites to be added if I become an editor. Am I missing something? I am a web developer and have a plethora of websites I have created, which I would suppose would tell the reviewer of my application that I spend alot of time on the Internet and forums such as this one. Every single application I try something new, and am more concise and professional in my application. I am sure most people do not spend as much time as I do on the applications which adds to my frustration and confusion. I really don't see how I wouldn't be a valid candidate for this or any category. I was a high school wrestler and know much about the sport and am very interested in it still today. What more do I have to do to become an editor? I thought i had the bases covered. The previous editor that used to be assigned to the category actually hasn't added anything since the I have submitted my site. So I would imagine this category needs a little help. Through other posts by moderators it seems like there is more than one site waiting for a review. I would be more than willing to review these sites, in fact, I would be delighted to. My 8 tries to be an editor would explain that. I guess if some people do not appreciate my long-term efforts to become an editor. I would request that some related editor or another editor with a good heart could sift through this section and review some of the sites that are there including mine. I doubt any one else is going to try to be an editor for this category. And, well, it looks like i will never be an editor the way things are going...so the only way to help these sites would be for another person to step in. That is what I am requesting. I am sure many of those sites have been there well over a year because of a post a year ago (in this thread) stating that there were more sites in the section. Thank you. Happy new year to all. *** Edit *** I see you have increased the "site status" time to more than 6 months. I agree with you on this measure. Please, do not regard this as a "status update". I don't want a status update because I already know the status and know that it hasn't changed. I am simply asking for some input on the situation. I have sifted through the threads and realized that this thread is one of the old dinosaurs of the forum that is still active for a long period of time and the most posts. This thread started on the OLD forums DMOZ had 2 years ago. You can see that from some of the old posts. Anyways, I just want someone to give me some tips or help me out. I really want to be an editor to fix this situation, but I guess that isn't an option for this case now.
motsa Posted January 1, 2005 Posted January 1, 2005 I would request that some related editor or another editor with a good heart could sift through this section and review some of the sites that are there including mine.Someone will eventually edit in this category and review your site. It won't be because of a request in this forum, however. All you can do is be patient.
danmagicman7 Posted January 1, 2005 Author Posted January 1, 2005 Who are the people that check applications for becoming an editor? Is it the same person every time? Can i request someone else to review my application? I have a wierd feeling somone is not being honest while reviewing my applications...
Meta hutcheson Posted January 1, 2005 Meta Posted January 1, 2005 Staff, administrators, and volunteer meta-editors check the applications. It is probably not the same person every time -- the process works just like submittals, people volunteer to review the pool of applications. But ... if dishonesty is the thought that springs most quickly to your mind, as an explanation for someone else's volunteer actions -- even in the absense of any apparent motive -- then you probably won't find participating in any volunteer community congenial. I'd recommend starting out by actually meeting some of the people that volunteer in your own physical community -- see what they do, try to learn why they do it. If you catch the spirit, there will be so many opportunities for public-spirited activity that you'll have to pick and choose -- whether or not you participate in the ODP.
jimnoble Posted January 1, 2005 Posted January 1, 2005 Who are the people that check applications for becoming an editor? meta editors. Is it the same person every time? unlikely. Can i request someone else to review my application? No.
danmagicman7 Posted January 2, 2005 Author Posted January 2, 2005 Well, I won't give up trying to become an editor. One of these times i will get accepted.
