totalxsive Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 Re: Update for designhaus-i-d.com What you have now is sufficient evidence to show that the site has moved. The 301 redirect thing just means that are dead link crawler will pick it up so that the change gets higher priority. It will also allow Google to remove the old site from its index. Basically, it's not required, but it's nice to do if you can and are willing to do so.
designhaus Posted February 17, 2004 Author Posted February 17, 2004 Re: Update for designhaus-i-d.com OK, we got the redirect in place (finally). We had it, but then it didn't work. Turned out we had to change the name with the FTP client, since Windows named the file ".htaccess.txt", which doesn't work. Anyway, thanks so much for your help--it goes with your name. Thanks to totalXSive, too. Jeff Mowry
designhaus Posted February 23, 2004 Author Posted February 23, 2004 Re: Update for designhaus-i-d.com By the way, thanks for letting us know about the Google penalty/mirror thing. We got the 301 redirect rolling last week and it automatically brings users to our new page. Any news on the update? I still see our old site linked at the old location. Thanks for your help. Jeff Mowry
designhaus Posted March 16, 2004 Author Posted March 16, 2004 Ok, you are going to have to have your tech people do a 301 redirect on the old domain to the new one. It appears the content is mirrored but the 301 is the final proof. You should do that anyway as Google will penalize you if it finds mirrors of your site. If you do the 301 - post back and I will take care of the update for you. Just checking on any progress. The redirect seems to work well. We plan to stop funding the old site after this quarter, so would like to get the update in place by then if possible. Any news? By the way, I like the new format. Took me a while to find things, but I think it's quicker now. Thanks, Jeff Mowry
thehelper Posted March 16, 2004 Posted March 16, 2004 I updated the url and the title of the site. If you want to change categories you are going to have to submit an update url request to the category you want to change from. Give the public side of the directory a few days to update, don't use search to find your site, look at the category itself. Sometimes search takes longer to update. Have a Great Day!
designhaus Posted March 17, 2004 Author Posted March 17, 2004 Thanks for the update help. We'll check it out in a couple of days and resubmit for a category change again at that time. Jeff Mowry
designhaus Posted May 10, 2004 Author Posted May 10, 2004 Update status for industrialdesignhaus.com Hello, We submitted a site update request on 08 April and would like to check the status of the update. The details are below. (Yes, we used the "Update Listing" tool in the category we would like.) Thanks, Jeff Mowry ______________________________________________ http://www.industrialdesignhaus.com Description: Award-winning industrial design firm focusing on ergonomic human interfaces, parametric SolidWorks modeling, and manufacturing engineering. Last year we grew from a sole proprietorship to an LLC, reformatted our web site, picked up some design awards, and began gaining industry recognition. We would like to update our description and move from our existing category: http://dmoz.org/Business/Industrial_Goods_and_Services/Engineering/Consulting/Design/ to: http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/Design/Industrial_Designers/ This is because we feel this is a better classification of who we are as an industrial design firm, since we better fit the profile of industrial designers than that of engineers. Thanks, Jeff Mowry Industrial Designhaus, LLC
donwiebe Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 Your update request has been received, and is awaiting review.
designhaus Posted May 10, 2004 Author Posted May 10, 2004 Thanks OK, we'll check back in about a month. Much grass, Jeff Mowry
designhaus Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 Update status check Hello, Since it's been about 30 days since our last inquiry, I'm scheduled to post again to see if there has been any progress with our listing update. Any news thus far? I appreciate your help. Jeff Mowry
donwiebe Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Sorry, there's been no change in status. Please note we've increased the time between status updates to six months. Feel free to come back on or after 10 December for another update.
designhaus Posted December 21, 2004 Author Posted December 21, 2004 Hello, Well, it's been a tad over six months and our site has since adopted a new look. Any news on the category update? Merry Christmas! Jeff Mowry
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted December 21, 2004 Editall/Catmv Posted December 21, 2004 No change in status of the update request.
designhaus Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 arubin, Thanks for the quick reply. At this rate, we've been waiting on this update for almost a year. What would you recommend we do? Waiting longer is OK, I suppose, but it seems a strange option for such an ambitious project (DMOZ). Need more editors? I'd like to clear this up soon, if possible. Anything I can do? Thanks for being an editor! Jeff Mowry
designhaus Posted February 9, 2005 Author Posted February 9, 2005 What can I do? Hello, I noticed this is one of the longest threads in this forum. Is there anything I can do to help resolve my issue and get the placement of my site among the other industrial designers? After such a long time, I'm willing to consider broad options. Thanks, Jeff Mowry
