Guest Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 I'm sorry if this is too soon to request the status but after I made my submision I'm afraid I may have made some mistakes. I submitted the url: http://www.bayoubid.com/ The hompage of my site redirects to http://www.bayoubid.com/page/index.html. I noticed in the rules that I can't submit a url that redirects to another url. Also, I may have included a title that was too long after reviewing what the other titles looked like in the category I submitted to: http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Auctions/ Was I rejected for these reasons? Thanks -Dan
totalxsive Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 In this case, having a redirecting URL won't count against you since it's an 'internal' redirect - we'd have only been concerned if you had submitted http://www.1-spammy-long-url-with-info-about-auctions.com/ which redirected to your site. The title will most likely be modified if the site is accepted. It will take some time though - there are over 500 submissions in that category which require attention. Generally sites are only rejected if the site itself is poor, but it makes an editor's life easier if the description has been written properly.
Guest Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 Thanks for the update. I believe I also applied to become an editor on of the sub categories but was declined. Looks like you guys could use some help with reviewing those 500 sites and taking care of some outdated links. Like you still have Up4Sale.com listed, yet it closed years ago.
Meta kokopeli Posted January 17, 2003 Meta Posted January 17, 2003 Thank you for the tip regarding up4sale.com. Because the url is still valid (just mentions closing information) it did not come to our immediate attention. I have deleted the site. It is unlikely a new editor would be approved for a category starting out at a top level such as Shopping/Auctions where the number of waiting sites you refer to is large. I have no idea what subcat you applied for, but it could be that it was viewed too busy or had too many sites for a new editor. You might try applying for a smaller category, or even a category in another area to start out with--and use that as a stepping stone to where you would like to edit later on.
Editall/Catmv cleve Posted January 18, 2003 Editall/Catmv Posted January 18, 2003 Nice site that has not been rejected at all.
Guest Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Thanks for the listing guys. I wanted to help so I just went through all the urls listed on http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Auctions/ Here are some things I found. Hope this helps. 1234Trade - dead site Usellit - now a dating site Nor Cal Auction - redirects to affiliate search site It's Gotta Go - website returns Error Occurred While Processing Request Hawaiian Auction - no response Fatty Tuna - significant change of content of site. Compare current http://www.fattytuna.net/ to the archive at: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.fattytuna.net Should be moved to another category? eOrbis - significant change of content of site. Compare current http://www.eorbis.com/ to the archive at: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.eorbis.com/ Should be moved to another category? Deals Dot - no response Bid Expert - no english on page, description is in english. Should be moved under one of the world categories? Bid 1 Now - site under construction Auctionscape - site says "will be offline for 2 weeks" After looking at the archive at: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.auctionscape.com/ It looks like we have been waiting for 2 weeks since Mar 31, 2001 uBid4it - just one small square box shows up on my browser?
motsa Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 I dealt with a couple of them: Usellit - Removed Nor Cal Auction - Removed Bid Expert - It does have an English version. Bid 1 Now - Removed Auctionscape - Removed
dfy Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 And I got the rest: 1234Trade, removed It's Gotta Go, removed Hawaiian Auction, removed Fatty Tuna, changed to fattytuna.com and moved to a computer consultants category eOrbis, moved out to be sorted to the correct category. Deals Dot, removed Bid Expert, click on the "English language" button at the top right UBid4It, I get the same box. The site was created with MS Word so it won't show in anything other than Internet Explorer Thanks for those.
