Guest Shwing Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Hello.. I submitted my web site www.shwing.com in September of last year and resubmitted a couple weeks ago because I had not heard anything. I submitted to: http://dmoz.org/Arts/Directories/ Would someone be so kind as to tell me what the status is? Best Regards...
totalxsive Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 The September submission was deleted because the site was unreachable at the time (an all-too-common reason for rejection; I tend to leave them for a few days if they don't work, and then check again). The January submission is queued though. Sadly there are over 200 other submissions waiting there, but some are spam so I'll see to those today.
Guest Shwing Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 The site was down for a three days because I was moving to a new dedicated server. I shall continue to wait patiently. Thank you for your time. Best Regards...
totalxsive Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Well, after removing the layers of spam, duplicates and misguided submissions in that category (Florida Sea Bass Guide, anyone?), the queue is down to just 130 sites. I'll see if I can improve on that.
Guest Shwing Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Heh, heh, Keep an open mind... Florida Sea Bass Guide could very well be postmodern art. Thanks for working on this. I wish I could help... uzs980 Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 "I wish I could help." Well, perhaps you'd like to apply for a nice small category to begin with? Arts: Directories would be a little bit large for a beginner, but what about a category about your favourite artist or your home town?
Guest Shwing Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Hmm... I do teach digital art to artists at a local college here in LA. I could help out with Digital Resources if that category needs an editor. I could also do Art Galleries because I visit quite a few of those. You could let me know where you need help in the Arts section. Best Regards...
Guest Shwing Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Actually, if there was a category specifically for Art in Los Angeles, I would love to tackle that. It's a very interesting scene happening here. Cor! Methinks I need a new keyboard! Check out the spacing ! Can't shpell either!
totalxsive Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 How about LA Artists and Galleries ? It's a good size for a new editor.
Guest Shwing Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 I would love to. I know most of those galleries and there are tons more. Should I apply now? And BTW, are editors allowed to add sites that have not been submited?
dfy Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Editors are *encouraged* to add sites that haven't been submitted.
dstanovic Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Am I nuts? Nope, the craziness starts if/when you are accepted -Dave
Guest Shwing Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 So, my green reptilian friends , any luck, any news, any hope that the site may be listed soon? It's been a loooooong time and I'm very sleepy...
motsa Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 We ask that you please leave at leave a month between status requests. Thanks.
Guest Shwing Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 I applied in September of last year... *sniff* I wish there was a crying emoticon.
Guest Shwing Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 Any hope that a poor indie site will ever get listed?
motsa Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 It's still not a month since you initially asked about the submission status of this site (tsk tsk tsk) but I'll answer anyway. You're still in the queue of that category along with over 100 other sites. There is hope (there's always hope) but it's likely going to be awhile before the queue gets cleared out in that category. You can come back in a month (i.e. sometime after March 7) and ask about the status again here in this thread.
Guest Shwing Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 I'm annoyingly antsy,I know... I just feel so Woody Allen... -- like something bad's going to happen and something good'll only happen after the sky falls. ice cream heals...
Guest rfgdxm Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 The problem Schwing is with the huge backlog in some areas of ODP, it can take over a year before a site gets reviewed. That's just the way things are.
Guest Shwing Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 OMG! Google does that to me. When people type in "shwing," it says "Did you mean: schwing?" As if either one is a real word. The closest they both come to meaning anything is that they are some people's last names. I am shwing, hear me whimper...
motsa Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 Well, when I see "shwing" (however you want to spell it), the first thing that comes to mind is Mike Myers and Wayne's World.
Guest Shwing Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 It does conjure up the Wayne's world exclamation. I tried very hard to build a site that was far removed from that - avoiding extreme pop culture which would have been the easiest way to go with a name like that. :} I watched a movie called "the Merchants of Cool" and made up my mind to move from that model. I used to get a lot of hits from adult sites -- users thought they'd find some shwinging stuff or something. I guess because shwing.dk used to be one of those sites. shwing!
