Guest Posted May 3, 2002 Posted May 3, 2002 Is there a way to get my description changed? I own Announce It! search engine submission services and it's listed under premium services A. Right now the description reads "Offers submission services." I am not asking for the world, but would just like to ask if it can be changed to "Provides search engine submission services." The reason I am asking this is due to the high numbers of the whips and chains type who are looking for "submission services" my site keeps showing up and they are coming to my site under the search terms "painful whippings" "sex slaves submissions" and garbage like that. I would truly appreciate any help at all in this matter. The URL is http://announce.esubmit-it.com Thank You, Regards, Deborah
Meta hutcheson Posted May 3, 2002 Meta Posted May 3, 2002 Had you considered selling your domain name?
Meta hutcheson Posted May 3, 2002 Meta Posted May 3, 2002 Well, like, for the money. Pornmeisters are always looking for domains with proven search-engine attraction. All right, I'll try to be serious for a moment. But I'm still not sure this request that you are making (whether or not it's good for the directory) will do what you want. See, ADDING the words "Search Engine" to the ODP DESCRIPTION isn't going to affect search results that are dependent on YOUR page's text -- that is, most of them. Nor will it affect search results that are dependent on some copy of the ODP RDF (that is, the "Search Engines/Premium Services" pages of the Google Open Directory, Netscape Open Directory, etc., etc.) Since the ambiguous word "submission" is still there, the pages will still get returned. And, in fact, since the RDF-copied pages ALREADY include the words "Search Engines" prominently in the title, the mere presence of those words demonstrably isn't going to protect you from the brain-damaged part of the W&C community. (In fact, since this forum is indexed by Google, the B.D.,W&Cers are now going to find it with searches like "whips chains submission.") There is no protection against inveterate user stupidity.
Guest Posted May 3, 2002 Posted May 3, 2002 Thank you. I'm quite aware of how pages are indexed and the content of my pages in relation to this matter. I am simply making the request due to the fact that prior to my ODP listing (which has only been within the past 2 months after 2 years of trying and being ignored) that I did not get traffic for the terms I have previously listed. It was only after the ODP listing and Google began using the ODP description in their search query listings, that I began to get that "type" of traffic. I am not faulting ODP, Google, or my site content for that. I know there are deviants out there and it's part of life, I just am making a simple request. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. Regards, Deborah
apeuro Posted May 3, 2002 Posted May 3, 2002 Deborah, what you need to do is to fill out the following form. Since there are only a couple of sites waiting to be reviewed in that category, your update request should be dealt with quickly.
Guest Posted May 3, 2002 Posted May 3, 2002 apeuro, Thank you so much for your help! Regards, Deborah
Guest Posted May 5, 2002 Posted May 5, 2002 Dear Savvy, You can try resubmitting your webapge to the same category. This should bring up an update option of some kind. Check that option and explain why you are updating your submission. If you follow the ODP description guidelines, you have a better chance of your new description being used. The webpage description is still up to the discretion of the editor reviewing that page, however. The ODP description guidelines, to summarize, is not repoeat the category or title keywords, no hype or promotion and not to use pronouns like "you" or "his".Have a nice day,Angela
