duforudesign Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 I am requesting the status of http://www.duforu.com/ submitted to http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Full_Service/ Thank you
bobrat Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 That category does not accept submissions - perhaps one of the letters?
duforudesign Posted October 6, 2004 Author Posted October 6, 2004 Yes sorry http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Full_Service/D/
thehelper Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 The submission is currently awaiting editorial review. Thanks.
duforudesign Posted October 6, 2004 Author Posted October 6, 2004 Thank you. Hopefully this will not take too terribly much longer, on the better side of 6 weeks now
old_crone Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 You think six weeks is a long time to wait? You really should read the FAQs, especially this One. It can save you a good amount of wasted time spent on watching for your site to be included.
duforudesign Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 Please provide an update Can someone please provide an update on this submission? We are around 6 months, has it been rejected?
Meta hutcheson Posted April 9, 2005 Meta Posted April 9, 2005 Still waiting for review. Google to see how many other sites might be waiting with it.
duforudesign Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 May ask what I would be Googling for? Sorry new to this.
oneeye Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 If you search Google for sites in a similar business check how many results you get back. I get 480,000,000 results though obviously many are pages within sites and mirrors etc. So lets take just 1% of those = 4,800,000. Now lets say 1% of those have submitted to DMOZ = 48,000. Lets say we have managed to list half of those. What's left? That's about the number of sites waiting for someone to review them. Nevertheless the site could be reviewed tomorrow. On the other hand, unless your site stands head and shoulders above the rest, really stands out from the 25,000 odd and rising daily you are competing for an editors time with, is it worth holding your breath? Having learned the site has been received, all you can do now is to wait for that review, which could be anytime - 2 minutes to 2 years, maybe 10 years, there is no way of predicting. In the meantime check the category from time to time to see if it is listed. Thanks. Except maybe there is one thing. If you offered a local service and we could clearly see on the site that you did - maybe your full address - you might submit to the Regional branch locality category for consideration.
duforudesign Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 Thanks for the formal response and taking a bit of time out of your day to explain my question to me.
oneeye Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 No problem. The figures I gave also show only part of the picture - editors are not restricted to the sites that are suggested and the 4.8 million potential sites that exist are also in the pool so to speak. So in your business that need to stand out from the crowd is so important. And it can be done believe me, I've seen them!
