Guest Guillermo5000 Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 I would like to check the submission status of www.amtautomotiveandtowing.com and www.jerrysautomotiveandtowing.com They were submitted to this catagory: http://dmoz.org/Business/Transportation_and_Logistics/Towing_and_Recovery/Companies/ Thanks.
Meta hutcheson Posted January 29, 2003 Meta Posted January 29, 2003 [dmoz.org is down right now] Those both look like local businesses, and should be submitted to the locality Business and Industry category. (The Business categories are generally for sites of national or international interest.) Tomorrow, I'd recommend submitting again to the right Regional category. Editors will eventually get to the Business category and either (unlikely) list or (more likely) send to Regional or (least likely) do both. The description can include a BRIEF description of the service area (Washington and Idaho, Southern Patagonia, Metropolitan Podunk County, North America between the Pecos and St. Lawrence rivers, whatever).
Guest Guillermo5000 Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 I'm sorry, that doesn't make sence to me; This category is a list of local towing and recovery companies. None of these these listings have national or international interest. My descriptions are exactly like the other listings in the category. They begin with the city where the business is located and a very brief description of services. Thanks.
Meta orlady Posted January 29, 2003 Meta Posted January 29, 2003 You are correct in pointing out that the category is a list of local towing and recovery companies, few of which could possibly have national or international interest. Why, then, would you want your business to be listed in that category? Potential customers are far more likely to find the website for a local towing and recovery company if that website is listed in a Regional category for the area served by the company. Furthermore, sites for local businesses typically are reviewed more quickly when submitted to local categories than when they are submitted to categories like that one. BTW, from time to time ODP editors review categories like that "Towing and Recovery" category and disperse the contents to Regional.
Guest Guillermo5000 Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Thank you, and you make a good point. Am I correct in thinking that I can be listed in both since the regional categories are considered seperately? Thanks
Meta orlady Posted January 29, 2003 Meta Posted January 29, 2003 Yes, if ODP has a topical category in which a local business could qualify for listing, the site could be listed both in the Regional category and in the topical category.
Guest Guillermo5000 Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Thank you, you've been very helpful. I have now submitted to the regional category, but would still like to be listed in the topical category. Can I check the progress on these listings in the topical? Thank you.
uzs980 Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 There are submissions made in november for both sites waiting for review in that category.
Guest Guillermo5000 Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Thank you. Can you estimate how much longer? My listing should need no editing, and should be reaqdy to insert. Thanks
Meta hutcheson Posted January 30, 2003 Meta Posted January 30, 2003 No estimate possible: but bear in mind that the editor who went to that category to work, might well think the first step should be to disperse the regional-only listings to regional categories.
Guest Guillermo5000 Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 If they did that, there would be nobody in this category. This category is 100% towing & Recovery companies which are all regional, and 1 association which belongs in the Association category. Thank you everyone for the information.
Guest elwoodsharp Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 If they did that, there would be nobody in this category. This category is 100% towing & Recovery companies which are all regional This is why editors have been hinting that the sites are likely to be forwarded to Regional/. If the determination is made that this cat really isn't required because towing and recovery companies are so regional in focus, then the logical solution would likely be that each published site would be dispersed to the most appropriate Regional/ category and the Business/ cat eliminated. I see strong parallels between towing companies and auto dealers regarding their regional nature. Auto dealers serve a limited area and are published in Regional/ only, there are no Business/ categories for them, it seems the same may be appropriate for towing companies.
Guest Guillermo5000 Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 I agree, that makes better sence. I have re-submitted to the regional category. Thank you for the help.
Guest Guillermo5000 Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 Hello, It's been nearly three months now, Could I please get another update on jerrysautomotiveandtowing.com and amtautomotiveandtowing.com which were submitted to these catagorys: http://dmoz.org/Business/Transportation_and_Logistics/Towing_and_Recovery/Companies/, and http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Washington/Localities/O/Olympia/Business_and_Economy/ Thanks.
Guest Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 It appears you recieved an error when submiiting - one is still on it's way to the Business category, but I have placed both in the queue in Olympia, Automotive category where they are the only 2 waiting.
Guest Guillermo5000 Posted April 20, 2003 Posted April 20, 2003 Thanks so much!
