Da_OW Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 I submitted it to http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/California/Regions/Lake_Tahoe/ a while back. I think I have also submitted it to a backcountry skiing category, but that should have been at least a month ago as well. I not looking for a status update there because I simply can't remember where it was.
Guest gimmster Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Recieved and waiting in that category. At a quick glance I'm not seeing much in the way of unique content though. :tree:
Da_OW Posted October 13, 2004 Author Posted October 13, 2004 At a quick glance I'm not seeing much in the way of unique content though.Hopefully the editor will give it more than a quick glance then. There is unique information on many different hikes and backcountry tours, each with a photo gallery. No ther site contains as much information on Tahoe's beaches, each with its photo gallery. No other site even comes remotely close with information about Tahoe disc golf (and photo galleries for every course). No other site offers the information about some of the ski resorts listed, nor the extensive galleries. The Hole by hole analysis of the two golf courses is completely unique. No other site offers as much information on outdoor recreation for kids (with photo galleries). There are well over 60 photo galleries, each with unique content. No other site followed provided content for Measure L, a recent tax inititiative. And of course, none of the other sites are mine, which is why I care so much. Anyway.. just had to get that off my chest. Thanks for the update (and the other one, too).
Meta hutcheson Posted October 13, 2004 Meta Posted October 13, 2004 What you describe sounds like good unique content. But -- how prominent is the navigation to it? It's to your benefit to make sure that the unique content is prominently visible even to a quick glance.
spectregunner Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 I have to admit that I visited your site as well last night, but refrained from posting that I, too, felt it lacked unique content. We are not trying to be mean, or to pound on you. It is just that when we look at a web site we are supposed to put ourselves in the shoes of a visitor, and if we cannot find the unique content very easily, is it reasonable to expect that a visitor will be able to do so. Hopefully you will accept this in the spirit in which it is offered.

But then it occurred to me that the navigation is really straightforward enough for the regular visitor, which is who the site is designed for, and who isn't looking for the same things as you guys. Most of the visitors come in through search engines to the correct pages anyway. However, I did notice on the golf page that the links to the unique content look exactly like the links to the other courses. The same could be said for the ski resorts page. I'll have to make those stand out somehow. Thanks for your comments/criticisms.
Da_OW Posted January 13, 2005 Author Posted January 13, 2005 Hello again, I am using this thread to check on my submission to http://dmoz.org/Sports/Flying_Discs/Disc_Golf/ which is a different category from that listed above. I think I submitted the disc-golf page rather than the home page.
motsa Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 It's been rejected. Please don't submit any more deeplinks to specific parts of your site anywhere else. Thanks.
