About a month ago (I think) was the last time, but I've submitted it every 6 months over the past 3 years.

It waits review in the first category, and not in the second. Please don't resubmit as it wouldn't be listed in two Computers categories anyway. The only second listing might be a Regional one if you have a regional presence. Thanks.

Thank you for looking into this. I do have a regional presence (Southern California). Should I submit it to a corresponding category now, or wait until the first entry is approved?

What could possibly take 3 years?

 

I have submitted my corporate site several times to Open Directory over the past 3 years. My site isn't an affiliate site or anything else that would be reason for it not to get listed. This is database consulting services site. The site is professionally constructed, nice on the eyes, and absolutely nowhere to be found in the directory.

 

Yes, I have requested a status. And I was told it is waiting to be reviewed. But since my site has been declined or ignored for 3 years, I have very little confidence that it will be different this time. I know there are a lot of sites to review. And I know you guys and gals are volunteering to do this. It's just frustrating to see this happen for so long. And it makes every editor in every category look bad, when that is obviously no the truth.

 

Here are my questions:

 

1. Why would it take 3 years to get listed? I would think a legitimate corporate site (company has been around since 1990) would get listed within 6 months or so. That is still a long time, but 3 years?

 

2. Is it possible that there is a conflict of interest? Maybe the editor doesn't want my site in the directory? I'm not the conspiracy theory type, but after 3 years I really wonder. I have seen friends and clients get listed in the directory (different categories) within a few weeks. What possible reason would there be for them to get listed almost instantly while I wait this long?There is a huge backlog? In the consulting/database category?

 

3. Is the editor even active in my category? If not, how is the category being managed? I'd be happy to volunteer to review sites within my category. I know the industry well, and I can spot well constructed sites.

 

4. Is there some sort of supervisor or other level I can appeal my site status to? If only one person is between a site being listed or not, I think that is a situation that is prone to conflicts of interest.

 

Don't get me wrong. I like the idea of DMOZ. The web has become too commercialized and we need DMOZ. It just hasn't worked out for my company.

That's a very popular category with a pretty large backlog.

 

Anybody tackling that backlog may well tackle it in submission date order.

 

A new submission of a URL overwrites any previous one.

 

Repeated submissions can thus keep forcing the URL to the bottom of the pile.

 

I can't look very far back in time, but I see that your URL was submitted to the category on 22 Oct 2004, 26 Oct 2004 and 6 Nov 2004.

 

 

Here's my advice in 3 parts.

 

1. Stop resubmitting. You've proved it's counter productive.

2. Don't fret about it. We'll get to it in time.

3. Don't apply to edit that category. It's way too large for a trainee.

 

PS, Your site appears to be eligible for an additional listing in Huntington Beach which has an active editor and where there is little backlog. You might like to consider submitting it to there.

Thanks for the reply and advice. I came here in early November and read about the multiple submission "penalty", so that was the last time I submitted it. But I did submit it 3 years ago, and then 1.5 years ago, with no resubmissions in between, so I had pretty much given up on the "wait and see" approach as well. But I will not resubmit the site again.

 

I will submit to the Huntington Beach category today. I appreciate you mentioning that.

There's plenty of categories that are a good size for a "trainee", like maybe a subcategory of your city. What better way to find out first-hand about what an editor can do in three years?
