Requirement of site/contact address

Respected Editors,

Can I submit a site without any site/contact address in regional or any other categories? Because I have seen lots of sites without any address in ODP listings.

 

Please clear my misconceptions.

Yes. The e-mail field does say it is optional.

A site will probably only be added to a category if it is clear from the site that it belongs there.

With regard to a Regional listing, you should include your full address on the site in order to ensure that your site gets listed in the correct place. Not indicating where you are could result in your site being denied a listing in Regional. In most of the Topical sections, however, addresses aren't a requirement.

The ODP guidelines do not state that a contact address is required on a site.

 

You might have difficulty in getting it listed in the regional section of the directory though. If an editor cannot determine where the site belongs, it could end up in the wrong location or not listed at all. <img src="/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" />

 

Although my personal home page does not have an address and it is listed in the ODP, I would not do business with any commercial organisation that does not provide a contact address.

 

Just as a side note, in some countries it is against various trading or consumer protection laws to offer services or goods for sale without disclosing your address. <img src="/images/icons/tongue.gif" alt="" />
