I accidently posted my site status question in the wrong forum, however when they answered the reply was that there were less then 100 sites ahead of mine since dec 16th, does that seem like a lot or a little? And since it is a large catagory, how long could it take to get an editor. My origional post is in submission questions under www.wcgcollects.com and should be moved to this forum

It would have been best to keep commenting in that thread rather than starting a new thread but don't worry about it. That's partly my fault. And don't worry about having posted in the other forum originally -- it's easy enough for the thread to get moved.

The fact that there's no editor in the category doesn't mean that no one else can edit there -- every editor in the categories above it as well as editalls+ can edit in that category. There's no way to tell how long it will take someone to get there and review all the waiting sites. Sorry.

A 100 site queue is an average size -- there are many larger queues and many smaller. The queue you're in is actually on the smaller side considering some of the ones I've seen lately.

Thank you for your reply, what about me trying for another catagory like Top: Regional: North America: United States: Texas: Business and Economy: Financial Services this is a small catagory with out an editor. I have applied to edit this catagory as well. My question " is it ok to have a listing there as well, or should I just focus on the big catagory.?"

Thank you, I have submited my site to the area you recomended , I noticed however notice that, that area doesn't have an editor either. Any way to find out how many other submissions are waiting for approval there, www.wcgcollects.com submited to Houston Financial Services

I think editor motsa gave you some good advice about going for your locality.

There aren't any unlisted sites waiting in Regional/North America/United States/Texas/Localities/H/Houston/Business and Economy/Financial Services

"Is there any way to check the status of my listing? I have request a listing for www.wcgcollects.com in the catagory. Top: Business: Financial Services: Credit and Collection: Collection Services , The reason I ask is that this site had an editor, now it doesn't and i have been submited to this site since dec 16th 2002. . Is there any thing that I would need to change about my site to get it listed? Any comments would be appreciated."

Can any one help me with this catagory?

Part of the reason for the lack of replies to this post is likely the fact that you didn't give a clickable link to the category (not every editor is willing to copy and paste the non-clickable category, then replace all the spaces with an underscore and all the colons with slashes).

You are still waiting in the moderate-sized queue for that category (as wcgcollects.com, not www.wcgcollects.com). No, we can't give an estimate on how long it will take but it will get reviewed eventually.

Motsa said, many months ago, in this thread:

>> The fact that there's no editor in the category doesn't mean that no one else can edit there -- every editor in the categories above it as well as editalls+ [so Editall, Catmv, and Meta then] can edit in that category. There's no way to tell how long it will take someone to get there and review all the waiting sites. Sorry. <<

That was true then and it is still the current situation.

I agree but it has been requested since october of last year, and I have offered to be an editor for this catagory and have been turned down 3 times. I would just like to get this listing approved or even edit this group as it could use a lot of help, There are alot of links on this page that no longer even work or are out of business. Please tell me if anyone can update this site and get some of us that have been waiting an eternity approved.

It is frustrating to wait, and I know it won't make you any happier if I tell you that there are many, many unreviewed sites that have been waiting much longer than 7 months. But the process must take the time it takes; as several editors have said already, once your site is in the queue (which it is) it will be reviewed at some point, and whether that is in a week, a month or a year is impossible to say.

If you know of sites in the directory that are no longer working or have changed their content, we'd appreciate it a lot if you could report them in this thread so we can deal with them. (They will be dealt with anyway, sooner or later, but if we are made aware of them it will be "sooner" )

I am regularly coming across sites in unreviewed queues with submission dates going back to spring or summer 2002 and occasionally find ones going back even further than that. Most people who submit their sites to the ODP consider that they have waited 'an eternity' but it's just not possible to get through all the submissions any quicker than we already do. It is a volunteer-edited directory after all.

Getting accepted to edit is not difficult if:

1) you apply for an appropriately sized category

2) your motive for editing is clearly to contribute to the overall directory, not just to list your site

3) you have declared your affiliations honestly

4) you have read the guidelines thoroughly and

5) you are able to find three new sites and write guidelines-compliant titles and descriptions for them with no hype or spelling mistakes.

Also, as it has been stated to you before, just because there is no "listed" editor in that category, there are many other editors who have permission to edit the category in question. When someone with interest in that branch of the directory has time the waiting sites will be reviewed.

Re: Is a year too long to wait for a catagory?

If you want to help out you should consider following the advice found all over this board. Apply to be an editor of a small category, and work your way up to this pretty huge one. If you just want your site listed, that ain't gonna happen. Someone has to show an interest in this area and volunteer to edit, either a current editor or someone who joins up and now and earns the privilege of being allowed to edit such a large category.
