BrettLee Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Status Request for: http://www.realtorsofvenice.com Suggested to: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Florida/Localities/V/Venice/Business_and_Economy/Real_Estate/ Hi folks, Suggested the site above once about a month ago. Just wanted to see if it was rejected, pending, etc... Thanks, -Brett
gboisseau Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 The listing of this site has been declined by the reviewing editor.
BrettLee Posted November 13, 2004 Author Posted November 13, 2004 Declined Site Thank you for the quick reply. I'd like to overcome the objection. Can you tell me what the problem was and what I need to do? -Brett
gboisseau Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 Pretty much the same as most rejections - unique content. Is there any other site(s) that someone can find the same information as is on you and your wife's site?
BrettLee Posted November 14, 2004 Author Posted November 14, 2004 Unique Content Thanks again. Yep, I do see similarities. I do, however, see differences, too. As you might imagine, we're trying to build a web presence that both helps our customers and improves our business -- and the way to do that starts with the open directory. Clearly there are many realtors with all the same sites. We truly believe that we add quality content to the Internet, and we very much want to be included in the directory. Because of this, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to demonstrate our unique content. I don't know if this is the proper forum to present this information, so please direct me if a request needs to be made elsewhere. Our unique points include: 1. Our links to Florida attractions, broken out by region -- see the first three links 2. Our PDF's of builders, rentals, and overnight accommodations 3. Our recommendations of affiliates and restaurants 4. Links to numerous agencies within the local cities and counties 5. Links to many of the local educational institutions 6. Links to the best sources of employment opportunities 7. Links to all the latest weather information 8. Our aerial photos - we took them from a WWII bi-plane 9. The wealth and breadth of information on our site Please bear with me on point #9. I hope it will answer your question. Yes, it's true, we have information that can be found elsewhere. But it would take a lot of digging. And rather that do all the digging through numerous sites and wasting countless hours, we have consolidated ALL this information into a single website. In short, I believe we have created the best 1-stop shop for all your real estate needs in Venice, Florida. Please take a look for yourself. If you were planning on buying, selling, or moving to Venice, all you need is right here. Thanks for your time and effort. -Brett
bobrat Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 Attempting to get two listings by submitting two different sites for the same business might be construed as an abusive act of spamming the directory. Please read http://www.dmoz.org/add.html starting at Do not submit URLs that contain only the same or similar content as other sites you may have listed in the directory. Sites with overlapping and repetitive content are not helpful to users of the directory. and note the sentence that follows
Guest gimmster Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 Disclaimer: I have deliberatly not looked at the site so I can deal only in generalities. 1. Our links to Florida attractions 4. Links to numerous agencies within the local cities and counties 5. Links to many of the local educational institutions 6. Links to the best sources of employment opportunities 7. Links to all the latest weather information From our perspective links are not content. Bear with me here. We are a directory. We list the sites themselves, not the links to the sites. So whilst we appreciate you collecting the links, we'd prefer to add them directly to our directory. 2. Our PDF's of builders, rentals, and overnight accommodations If they are basically yellow pages type listings (remember I have not looked) we would not normally consider that as unique content. 3. Our recommendations of affiliates and restaurantsWell, links/referrals to affiliates are by definition not unique. Restaurant listings in general would not be unique, but reviews may be, as may extended information on properties without their own sites. 8. Our aerial photos - we took them from a WWII bi-plane ah, yes, unique content - but how visible is it, and is it overshadowed by the non-unique/unlistable content. In short, I believe we have created the best 1-stop shop for all your real estate needs in Venice, Florida. You may well have done so, and certainly are entitled to believe so, but we hope that http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Florida/Localities/V/Venice/ is even more extensive and useful than your site. That is our aim. It's not to list every site for/about/or based in the area, but rather to provide the best 'one stop shop' for a web surfer by providing maximal unique information. :tree:
BrettLee Posted November 14, 2004 Author Posted November 14, 2004 Many thanks Many thanks to you folks for taking the time to explain why our site won't be included in the open directory. Its great to know that the directory has such conscientious volunteers as to promptly and effectively answer questions in such a timely and professional manner. -Brett
