healthreserve.com (was:Site Submission Status)

Hi there,

We first submitted our site http://www.healthreserve.com several weeks ago and waited a couple weeks and discovered that we had submitted it to a category that you are not supposed to submit to. We then resubmitted it last week to the http://www.dmoz.org/Health/Resources/Consumer_Information/ category, which I just noticed has no editor assigned to it.

Can some one tell me if we should submit it again to a category with an editor, or if someone could look at the status? Appreciate it!

Other editors can review your site even though there's no particular editor listed. It's in the queue and will be reviewed in turn.

That's great, but can you give me some indication of the time frame? What is the que length where it is?

Thanks! :-)

No, we can't. It could be a couple of days or it could be many months. There are over 100 sites waiting in that category.

You can come back to this thread in a month and check the status again.

Too true. But suppose there HAD been an editor in that category? Then the conversation could have gone something like this:

>>Do you know when the category editor will log in again.

>No, we don't.

>>Or how many sites they'll review before logging out?

>Not exactly.

>>Or which unreviewed sites they'll look at first?

>Not really. They might even spend all their time doing web searches for unsubmitted sites, or rechecking listed sites.

>>Or how long they'll wait before logging back again?

>Not as such.

>>Or whether they'll spend all their time in other categories and not even look at this one?

>Could be, we really couldn't say.

In short, whatever warm fuzzy feeling you might have gotten from the presence of an editor in that category, wouldn't have been justified anyway. All we can say is: lots of people work hard, lots of sites get reviewed, some people can be cajoled into working for awhile on some of the staler unreviewed heaps. But there's nothing in the process that you can build a business plan around.

Sorry - I was only asking what the time frame would be! :-)

I guess we'll just sit tight and wait.

Thanks,

Re: Site Submission Status

What hutcheson says is very much true about whether there is a listed editor. Another factor can be that even though there is no listed editor, there may be an editor high up the tree, or perhaps a meta, editall, etc. for whom this is a "pet cat". If so, submissions may get reviewed in just a few days. However, this doesn't appear to be the case here. As such, the best answer is "sometimes in the next couple years". Could be soon, or could take a very long time depending on your luck.

Well if this is the case, and any other editor can review it, can't one of the editors reading these posts go in and review it? :-)

Or should we submit it to the appropriate regional category?

Posting here won't get your site listed faster, period.

Well if posting in here won't help, what will?

As I had asked, should we submit to the regional category?

The ODP is based on voluntary work, so no timeframe can be named. Editing time depends on the number and activity of the ODP-editors.

Volunteering to help.

The category you have submitted to is too large for a beginner to take on, but if you were to apply for another category and help out there, it would reduce the load on those editors that roam around the directory at random.

Re: Site Submission Status

I have applied to become an editor about 5 times over the last 2 years and have been turned down every time. And they were not major categories. I'd love to be an editor as I could help get rid of sooo much garbage that's out there, but it seems impossible to become an editor! <img src="/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" />
