Now What?

I made a complaint to an editor about some sites that are nothing but spam, packed with hidden text, cloaks and many many more terrible practices. I got a private message back to say that the sites have been deleted but they are still there, hmm, now what?

Hidden text is not forbidden. We review the sites based on what we see, not on what we can't see.

When checking whether changes have been made, make sure you look at the "original" ODP http://dmoz.org/, not on external data users like http://directory.google.com/. There are always delays until the data of external users change, too.

If you think the editor really abuses his position, you may complain to a meta editor.

Hi There

Yes, I emailed twice.

The sites are far more than hidden text, far far more than that. I'm not complaining about the editor at all, I'm just trying to follow up because I was told the sites were gone (yes, directly searching dmoz.org) and they are not.

I've emailed Google ( who as we know, really don't care about this stuff) and the company I'm griping about is directly taking money out of my pocket which is why I won't let it go.

Thanks again

The search may not have been updated with those deletions yet (search isn't updated automatically). Did you actually look in the categories where the sites were to see if they're still there?

Just to make this clear to me, are you saying that the sites have been removed from the category at dmoz.org but they still show up in other places, or are you saying that the sites are still in the dmoz.org category?

Yes, I checked the actual categories, I wouldn't have bothered for a while but I'm only going by what I was told which was that "those sites have been deleted".

I'd be happy to email you the original complaint privately if necessary,

Thank You
