allthingsitaly Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 The above domain was submitted to --- http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Italy/Travel_and_Tourism/ -- just over a month ago. The person responsible for the category is -- <removed> -- please could you let me know how my submission is doing?
Meta hutcheson Posted November 22, 2004 Meta Posted November 22, 2004 Read our submitters' and editors' guidelines. We can't discuss it here--and in fact editors are reluctant to discuss it anywhere--because too many webmasters go postal when they don't get their way.
allthingsitaly Posted November 22, 2004 Author Posted November 22, 2004 hope you don't mind me dragging this thread out, but i'd rather not go PM without an invite Believe me, i'm not the Postal type. I've read the guides for submission and the possible reasons for rejection and i honestly think this site complies with 'all thats good'. If i've missed something, i'd be glad to change it .... if it's something 'core' to the site that the editors find 'objectionable', then i'll just 'go away'. I may go away to 'sulk' ...... but i'll go away none the less
Meta hutcheson Posted November 22, 2004 Meta Posted November 22, 2004 I don't know whether the problem was "insufficient content" (where content is measured by information conveyed, not by word count) or "non-unique content". (And in any case that's something you'd know better even than the reviewing editor.) Another possibility is that the site navigation denigrates or hides the content we find interesting in favor of what we'd call merely advertising (which we ignore IF WE CAN.) Bear in mind that the submittal policies don't give a list of all possible ways in which a website may be content-free or non-unique -- just some of the most common ways. The underlying principle isn't a matter of complying with negative rules; it's about finding a previously-unsuspected way of achieving a positive result -- and that by definition isn't reduceable to rules.
allthingsitaly Posted November 22, 2004 Author Posted November 22, 2004 Hey, Thank you I really wasn't too sure what to expect as a reply .... i realise i was 'pushing my luck' by requesting an actual reason for refusal. But, i have to say i'm pleased to have recieved your comments and have no arguement about the reasoning behind them. The site will develop content over time (less than 3 months old), but in the meantime i'm quite happy to take your views on board and ensure the site 'steers the right path'. My faith in the ODP Editors / Mods has been reinforced Thanks again.
