thesul Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I know this is a bit off topic but how many editors and metas are there in total? In the dmoz homepage it says there are 65,623 editors but that most probably includes ex-editors/metas right?
Meta pvgool Posted November 22, 2004 Meta Posted November 22, 2004 Right, that number is the total amount of people that has been an editor at some time. The current number of editors? I have no idea. How many editors are active: probably not enough we will always accept new editors (as long as they can prove that they will be upto our standards) I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
jgwright Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 There seems to be nobody on the inside counting this. There are no official counts I know about. Re metas however, any editor could count the metas using tools at his disposal - but to reveal the results outside would be against the rules I think. Re active editors, I see many cases of people counting the number of unique editor names in the RDF (rdf.dmoz.org) dump. But this would still be an exaggeration. So based on some of these (old) estimates, the number active editors is less than 10,000. You'll be able to find more informtion here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmoz.org_directory - Right now that info is not in tip-top condition but I imagine in due course, and ferreting around the linked sites, you'll find the information you're interested in. I don't know why you want to exclude the number of metas for the figures for active editors - they do edit.
ishtar Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 Both http://dmoz.org/edoc/editorlist.txt and http://dmoz.org/edoc/editall.html are public documents.
jgwright Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 Public! Now I am surprised. There you go, easy to get the info from there - 8381 - with a few duplicates mind you.
thesul Posted November 23, 2004 Author Posted November 23, 2004 I *knew* that there was no way there was that many editors currently active! hehe And to quote pvgool How many editors are active: probably not enough we will always accept new editors (as long as they can prove that they will be upto our standards) I will apply to be an editor since I am on this forum every day
